Hello, I've read quite a bit about a clicking (repeated) just before a complete stop ligth braking and at light acceleration from a dead stop in 2016+. Seems like in all the cases I read, it was the driver's/left side CV axel. I will be able to isolate where its coming from with special microphones I have, but it might not be clear weather or not its the axel or the Power Split Device (Transmission) that it's inserted into! Has ANYONE found this clicking to be the transmission and not the axel? I need some more info to see how to proceed Thanks Drew
Found lots of threads discussing this. Seems like swapping out CV axle doesn’t fix it and the solution is to put up the window and turn up the music because it doesn’t affect anything except a noise at low speeds. That’s paraphrasing Toyota removing the TSB on it.
That pretty much the truth. Gen 3's do it too. If you reach under the car, you can reproduce the sound by turning the axle - there's about 1/16" of play. One theory is that it has to do with the physics of axle movement vs regenerative braking. Doesn't appear to cause other problems. You can read up on it by searching "clicking noise". Burner is right, turn up the radio. The good news is, it's not the transmission.
It's a weird issue. My car only does it when I'm slowing to a stop and turning right at the same time. And only on one particular exit ramp where the conditions are just right. Replacing an axle might provide some relief, but the problem has reemerged for some who did that, so it's not a guaranteed fix. After all the research I did, I decided to do nothing.
I'm working on the same issue myself in a 2011. But I do believe it's the transmission. Final differential I believe it is. I will be putting new drive shafts in. The rest of the suspension is new because I didn't think it was the transmission. Everything else is replaced with no change so it has to be. I kinda think it's this pin that has some play in it that it shouldn't have. I'm currently waiting on a ride to get yard transmission and will see if there is play in that one. That's interesting. What are the specifics of your car's symptoms. Has there been any change in the clicking noise since you first noticed it? Check out this video at the 1:06 mark And this one at 1:15
The car in the video I posted last is an extreme example. For most people it's barely audible...you can only hear it with the radio off, and it's frequently not fixed by axle or suspension part replacements. And it usually only happens at slow speeds when stopping while turning left or right.
Funny I changed my transmission and drive shaves. Now I have this noise. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Well that's not good because now I have that problem with new axels inner is shaped differently tho. I was thinking it is hitting transmission housing. I'm gonna see if that's the case tomorrow. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
You ever try to put spacer on lugnuts. Maybe the tire isn't being clamped on tight enough. I just had that noise cus I forgot to tighten the lugnuts. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
