C1253 after change ABS pump

Hi there, I've been working on a 2008 prius for over a month now, I'm on my 3rd abs pump replacement and the last one was removed from a 2005 prius of mine that crashed, so the same defect after installing the abs pump that I'm sure was fine , I also changed the relays, fuses, the abs auxiliary pump master cylinder which is on the left side of the vehicle, and I've bled the brake countless times, but I have the same problem, this case is still unsolved?

 

So, I would diagnose the C1253 pump motor relay code. Do you have a copy of the Toyota service manual and have you looked at the chart for this code? It would help to have a scantool that can do what Techstream can do- retrieve sub codes (there are 8 sub or INF codes that give details about C1253)- view ABS data and tell the ecu to perform actions (such as turning on each relay and seeing what happens).

At this point does the pump run at all? You have mentioned everything that you have replaced. Now what have you tested?

c1253 ended up being fuse linkage for me. Mtl Hihy put a super long detailed post on this thread linking a video. Replacing it is doable although not fun.

And I see the C1253 was already mentioned in the first post of your other thread. Future PriusChat readers will benefit from your experience and see how paying attention to what the codes mean can save a whole lot of time/effort/money in troubleshooting.

Now, not everybody's C1253 problem will turn out to be the fusible link. But everybody with a C1253-138 (as you had) will know that MTT was 3.5 volts or less when the system meant to operate motor relay 2, and so everybody with that code will want to focus on the things in the circuit that could explain that, until the problem is found (whether it turns out to be the fusible link or something else).

The pdf write up someone posted on c1253/138 said abs motor relays, abs wire harness. Or abs pump itself. I swapped the relays and testing #2 set off the lights every time so I knew it wasn’t the relays. Swapping pumps just burned out the pumps (I think)

just a page down on the write up it says to inspect the fuse linkage abs 1 and abs 2. That seemed more trouble than to just swap the linkage out.

I have another prius with c1203 c1345. Hoping just the abs pump this time.
