I dont know how you guys got this darn stud off. It's the nut of death I believe, the one that cant be seen from the top, facing the driver's tire. I am using a 1/4 torx socket with extensions but just going around and around with my socket ever slowly due to the lack of room. It doesnt seem to be moving at all. How did you guys get it off? I attempted to just remove the EGR but the nut facing the head is not reachable either.
I removed the stud after removing the EGR cooler. As I recall, it was threaded in very tightly. I was afraid it was either frozen in place, or I'd break something, but eventually, it did break free. After winning that battle, I decided to leave it off when I reassembled everything. What other nut are you referring to? Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
If you are referring to the two nuts holding the back of the EGR cooler to the downpipe, I put a mover's blanket on top of the engine and lay on top of it so I could reach down behind there to undo the nuts. Be careful not to drop the stainless steel gasket when you undo everything. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
The stud doesn’t need to be removed. The 12mm nut can be reached using a deep socket and an extension, plus a swivel head ratchet.
