Today my screen restarted itself while driving and then started to die? Is it overheating? The screen faded out until it eventually went black, a little later on I drove it again and it was still off but restarted itself and was on for a few seconds (touchscreen worked) but eventually faded out to black. I've read I can send it in but my dad is a mechanic and can fix pretty much anything, does anyone know which capacitors go out on the MFD? I can't find too much info on what to solder or which capacitors to fix, if it's not that easy obviously I will send it in and pay the 299 for the fix, but I'm trying to save as much money as possible. Thanks in advance if you can give me some type of info or video links that show how and what needs to be replaced or fixed on the actual MFD.

(Prior to the pics the screen was working fine with 1 line going through it until it eventually looked like this and turned black.) 20221016_160822.jpeg 20221016_160704.jpeg

Is yours the early 06 type car possibly with blacked out brake lights the very top lights have a black piece of tint in them. And the door panels are painted when you touch them they're hard plastic and they're painted a color they're not cloth or spongy plastic I'm asking if you have the early model 06 some call it the short nose

It is not a early 06, does not have anything you're describing. I've called places that fix the MFD and they will not disclose which capacitors or what needs to be soldered, I'm trying to figure out if anyone in these forums knows and is willing to be nice and help me out instead of expecting me to send it in.

I have no idea what has to be soldered buddy there's also somebody here years ago who bought a Panasonic screen offline and soldered it in and is existing business and I guess it worked so I don't know much about electronics in that area All I know is when I see a good MSD from the seven to nines I usually grab them throw them in my pile of mess that I have for these cars because I don't own any of the '04 to '06 mine are the later model that had the WMA player which was windows media audio capable player and all that nonsense in the car generally

I do not think that the MFD has the "same" faulty capacitor problem that plaques the Combination Meter. I seem to recall there was a thread somewhere that had found problems with solder joints at a board to board interconnect in the MFD?

Any luck with the continued search, or is it time for the direct links ?

It says 06 in title 04 to early 06 same late 06 up is 07 to 09. So yours is before 7.06?? It makes difference . I usually pull from local salvage used to keep 3 on hand here I guess I used them .I've one for the 04 to early 06 only now here . Mines so solid I usually ride with it off until I need change something. And at night never on .

You might be a little confused there with the mid-cycle refresh split. The refresh happened with the 2006 model year so the pre-refresh 2004-2005 are grouped together and the 2006-2009 post-refresh are grouped together. There are differences between them, some significant and some minor.
