Here's why Toyota Super Long Life Coolant is not so long lived

    Keep it too long and gaskets and maybe including the head gasket might deteriorate.



    Toyota water pump gaskets, like head gaskets might succumb to deteriorated coolant.

    Yes it is true that over extended interval of coolant can cause corrosion and becomes acidic. However, prius cooling system failure often caused by overheating from headgasket failure and cracked the nylon impeller coating.

    Proving causality is harder than many armchair experts appreciate.

    There have been some threads presenting evidence that the causal arrow could point from coolant deterioration to head gasket failure.

    No big deal. Changing coolant every 5 years or 50k miles is easy and inexpensive. My dad used to do it every 2 years in his old vehicles with the original green Prestone.

    A wise man (from that evidence). A ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. I would say you were raised around some smart people.
