Hi Looking to add fog lights to my 2013 prius. I understand that there is a fog light switch on the signal bar left of the steering wheel. Has anyone added fog lights and change the signal switch instead of installing a button on the blanks?
Just to clarify, I know that there is a fog light on/off switch on the signal bar for prius that come with fog lights. Has anyone added fog lights to a prius that didn't have fogs originally and replaced the signal bar instead with the fog function instead of installing a button.
This is a Prius v, but it should be the same. https://priuschat.com/index.php?threads/235360/ Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Just to update Short version is that I am going with the button route. I purchased the parts based on some links on the postings but I wasn't aware that if it long exists my browser does a search on a similar item. I bought a fog wire kit but received a wrong button (correct size is 32mmx22mm or something like that) then I bought a stalk with a fog but missing the drl that I currently have.... Also unsure where the 2c connector pin 8 and how it is connected and if there are existing factory relays. I really have no time to research and I always feel like I am in over my head on every project so I will decide in the future whether to take on replacing the stalk.... also auto lights, since the proper stalk has auto lights function, I can't really just ignore it. Too fresh in my memory of just putting in the fogs and threading through firewall and wrong parts.
The stalk I used was 84140-48200 from an old Lexus. It has a fog switch and a headlight AUTO position. It doesn't have a DRL position. Maybe there's some other part number that has that too.
I saw some on previous searches but can't find them now... I should have wrote it down for future reference... it takes a lot of time to track it. It was selling for around 150.00
Just to update that the fog lights were a little disappointing so far. I saw good reviews for the Morimotos XB and decided to purchase them, but it is really not that bright. The pictures I have seen online appears brighter and when seen from the outside and against the garage door, you can see the beam very clearly, but the actual difference on the road is very minor. I've heard people complaining that fog lights are not very helpful, but I guess it is one of those project you have to do it and see for yourself to be satisfied. Also, I didn't put the yellow lamix on mine, maybe it would have made a difference? At least the car looks nicer with the new lights.
Yellow vinyl will definitely help, because it increases contrast, especially when the road is wet. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Well, I've got these projector foglights, purchased from Cheizy, there's a thread here in priuschat. They have glass lenses and a physical cutoff shield that gives the lights a sharp cutoff, like the lowbeam headlights. They take H11 bulbs. Anyone interested in them can have them for $50 plus shipping. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Here's the thread with some good pictures of the bright, sharp beams. FYI, I believe Cheizy installed HIDs in his. That's why it is stupid bright in his pics. https://priuschat.com/index.php?threads/152357/ Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Thanks for info Another update, I am not the most conscientious diyer and I didn't adjust the beam level. I have just done it and it is now significantly better than before. Thus, I think the morimotos are actually pretty good, and I will wait and see on the next rain storm or a drive in a very dark area.
I think I will go ahead with the new signal stalk to include the fog... I found this stalk which includes a control pad (under the signal switch) maybe originally for steering wheel position adjustment? Didn't notice it when I made the purchase. It was listed as a toyota part and it fits 2013 prius.
Yes, some of those Lexus models had motorized steering wheel adjustments. Those stalk versions got mentioned over in the auto headlights mod thread. Could be fun thinking of something else in the car for that pad to control.
I checked on the auto headlight mod and initially thought this stalk includes the switch but the "auto" labeled on the switch may be drl. I think someone mentioned it is labeled "auto" in Canadian models? I might just sell the pad. I don't want to mess with it too much. Initially, I wanted to avoid going through the firewall so I hoped that the switch can help me avoid it... also, a set of bright usable lights. Not satisfied with the morimoto Xb. I am returning and upgrading. I am just investing more and more just on the fog. Should stop now, the car is getting old.
