2014 Prius c - hybrid battery replacement - P0A80

    I have a 2014 Prius C with 209,000 miles. About a week ago, I got the P0A80 message. I've driven it about 400 miles since I first saw the message without any issues. I went to the Toyota dealer today & they quoted me $3,400.00 for a used hybrid battery (12 month/12,000 mile warranty) or $4,400 for a new one. The car's in decent shape (other than no air conditioning but I can live with that). I'm leaning towards installing the used battery. How long can I expect a used one to last? I drive around 25,000 miles/year.

    Why is the air conditioning not working?

    $3,400 is a lot of money for a used hybrid battery, are you sure that you went to a Toyota dealer? i don't think they sell used hybrid batteries.

    if you're going rebuilt, you can't expect anything except replacement during the warranty period.

    i would look around for a green bean battery or the like, if i'm going rebuilt. much cheaper, and better warranties

    The AC stopped working a couple yrs ago. A trusted mechanic friend said that it would be $2,000 to fix the AC.
    Yes, it was definitely a Toyota dealership & they gave me an estimate of $3500 for a used battery & 4600 for a new one. I called a local hybrid auto shop & they said they'll jnstall a used one for $1500 total so I'll probably do that. I just hope the car doesn't leave me stranded in the meantime. Does it hurt the engine if I drive alot before I change the battery?

    Isn't it bad for the HV Battery lifespan not to use the AC? for the temps

    But what stopped working? the compressor or the blower?

    Wow, that Toyota stealership is downright criminal for massively inflating prices. Don't go back to them! Going rate for a used OEM hybrid battery for Prius C is closer to a $1K and a bit over $2K for a new one, but they are on back order for months.

    if you are in a hot climate, it might be better to feed the battery with conditioned air, although some have said there is no noticeable lowering of battery temps when read with an obd scanner

    AC is important part of hybrid battery air cooling. Without AC, Hybrid battery will fail prematurely.
    Never buy used battery unless you want to sell it within 1 year. Get a good new battery that will last another decade or more if you park in garage or under the trees.
