I echo what JollyHolly posted above regarding Hometown Hybrids. We own a 2010 Prius and a 2007 Camry hybrid, 85K miles. We experienced the "crazy warning lights" on our Camry dashboard recently (i.e. master warning, check engine, maint reqd, yellow brake warning, etc.) and the dealer told us the battery was at fault. They said the fix was complete replacement, at upwards of 4K. I grew up working on cars, my grandfather was a mechanic and machinist, and car dealers have never impressed me with either honesty or proficiency. I googled for hybrid repair alternatives, and found Houston Hybrids (now Hometown Hybrids). Good reviews, so I gave them a try. Hometown called me to setup the appointment, and this large polite young man named "Shea" showed up at my doorstep in La Vernia TX a couple days later. Shea R&R'ed the hybrid battery battery, cleared the warning lights, and then left for his next service call up I35 (i.e.Waco). I never left my house for any of this. At roughly $1700, and a full year replacement warranty, Hometown Hybrids will be getting any future business I have with my Prius.

 

My 2007 prius battery died 2 days abck and I'm thinking about having it replaced with a refurbished battery. I would like to know your experience with the refurbished battery before i take a decision. Is your car still running with the refurbished battery, and if so, how many miles do you have on it and how is it performing. I look forward to your reply.

there are lots of threads here, most have not been very happy. otoh, people without complaints don't always come here to tell their happy tale.

 

Welcome to PC. I tried your link. Something is amiss because I get an error. Tried twice.

Anyway, I second what @bisco said about Todd at Tampa Hybrids @TampaPrius.com. I've never had to rebuild a battery before last week. Todd can give you several options from just replacing the failed module to a brand new battery. I chose getting a gen 2 battery frame repopulated with a full set of cells from a 2015. Next best thing to a new one, but lots less $$$.

@jerrymildred - Thanks for the contact of TampaHybrids Todd. I gave a call and got some good advice. I would have taken his service if my car could go that far but not sure. FYI, i am not in Florida now. Out of curiosity - does your Prius really give 89mpg?

 

Yup, but it's a plug-in Prius (PiP). So, about 40-45% of the time, I'm driving in EV mode. Fuelly doesn't have algorithms for plug in hybrids. Hence the little disclaimer in my sig line just below the fuelly info.

Glad you were able to reach Todd. He's extremely knowledgable.

By the way. If you want others on the forum to read "New Owner of a used 2007 Prius Touring, bought a month back and the hybrid Battery died,"" I suggest copying and pasting it to a new thread. Otherwise "All Prius owners" will only be four people. There are hundreds of users here.

 

I'm checking back on how your battery did. I need an inverter assembly for my 2007 and have already contacted Jessica @ Hometown Hybrids for an estimate. After getting a ridiculous estimate from the dealership ($3800 plus $700 labor), her estimate if $1200 seems too good to be true!

Just want to do due diligence. They'll be in DFW next week, so want to be sure I can be confident in their work. Thanks in advance!
