If the market and economy were what they were a couple years ago I’d say get the 2022. You somewhat need a new car and I don’t see much point in waiting on 2023. But with conditions as they are I will do just about anything to not buy a car right now. So unless you want to pay multi thousand dollar “market adjustments” I have heard people talk about (is Toyota doing this? I don’t really know), I’d probably get as much out of that 2009 as I could until car prices come back to earth.

I agree but this dealership isn’t doing the $5000 markup that other local dealers are doing which helps. I almost died when I saw list price on a used 2020 and 2021.

Thank you! I’ll have all weather mat so that will probably take up more space. Thanks for the reminder.

Need some advice...I got a call and the dealership will be getting in a red xle. It's mine if I want it but I can wait until their next allocation and switch to whatever is on it IF an XLE comes in. Now at first blush I think a red one would be fun because all I've ever bought has been practical tans (they don't show the dirt...etc). I am not a wash the car type of person so low to no maintenance is my motto. That being said, I'm kind of sick of being the predictable practical conservative chick. My question....how bad will the red look if I'm letting mother nature clean it with rain? How hot does the thing get in the summer with all that black interior too? Thanks for your comments.

Great question! : ) I’m sticking with silver for the same reason. I’m concerned about the heat of the black interior as well and hope someone else answers that question. I presently have a silver 2009 with charcoal gray interior which I really like and was hoping to get again.

I owned a red Jetta. It was fun at first but I wouldn’t get red again. I’m sure they’ve improved on the paint technology but red used to be one of the more challenging colors to match during collision repairs. It did show dirt but not as much as the darker colors.

So are you waiting for a regular Prius or Prime? I’m really leaning towards letting go of the Prime but need to call this week and let them know. I’m gambling that a silver AWD will come in before production stops and that those on the AWD list don’t snatch it first.

This will be a prime. Good luck with your AWD. It is dicey at this time of year and with all the delays. I've been waiting since June 6th.

I don't recall my red Taurus showing off the dirt. It might have been a shade darker than what Prime has; 1996 Toreador Red.

Those windshield shades do help with heat during the summer. Couldn't say how hot the fake leather gets. It's suppose to be much better than the vinyl of the old days. Seat covers are also an option if the black turns out to be a problem.

We have two vehicles that are black...with a black interior. Yep..it sure can get hot in summer...not sure I would want a black car if I lived in a hot southern state. However, it is nice in the winter. The sun 'warms up' the interior and the snow melts off the exterior much faster than our other cars ( like our white Prius in the pic on the left ). One other thing...black is notoriously tough to 'keep clean'.

We've had red, blue, and titanium glow (see our avatar) and love them all, none showing dust/dirt anywhere near as obviously as our darker cars (Mercedes Benz black opal metallic being the worst). If it is the model you want, grab it or you may and up with nothing!

I really like my Blue Magnetism (also called Spirited Aqua Metallic) Limited. Plenty of white paint mixed in the blue paint generates scattered light when UV hits on it, and it shines as a luminescent colored car in a black & white world. At night in a parking lot, it is the only colored object. Unfortunately, they don't seem to make this color any more.

The 2022 Prius Prime Limited production has stopped, and the inventory has depleted.

They are mostly making the 2022 XLE now—my least favorite trim—and some LE.

Why is this your least favorite trim? Says the hyper vigilant analyzer. And…how do you know this? Any ideas why?

I had a silver 2020 XLE, which I traded in for a blue 2021 Limited.

In hindsight, I wouldn't buy any trim other than Limited because I find the blind-spot monitor indispensable. Even the rear cross-traffic alert can save you from accidents. In fact, even the automatic-braking parking sensors saved me from damaging my rear bumper.

In my opinion, XLE adds unneeded features to LE while downgrading to the larger display, which is outdated and misses Android Auto, Wi-Fi connectivity, etc. The only thing I like about XLE that LE doesn't have is auto-on lights, which is an important safety feature.

Most definitely wait gen4 has been quite an annoying experience for me so far the charge door keeps getting stuck, the alignment is a constant issue, the 12v battery has died twice within only two years of ownership, the iPod port is constantly not working, a ton of other things. Drastically different than my gen 2 experience

My gut is telling me to wait but my fear is getting in the way. Are these regular issues for other owners with 2020 and 2021 models? I guess we don’t know if they fixed this for 2022. My understanding is it’s almost identical to 2021 right?

Prius Prime is the most reliable car on the market along with the Prius. I haven't had a single issue either with with my 2020 XLE or 2021 Limited.

Or it's a lemon.... But I agree...All my cars have been Toyotas but one. They have been extremely reliable I've never had big repair bills and my 2007 prius is wonderful still

Thanks for this. I have actually been concerned about visibility etc. especially with a brand new shiny car…. Could use as many safety features as possible although I’ve been compromising and picking XLE due to Limited’s additional cost.

My 2009 has had some issues and I had to fight for an unexpected repair to be paid under CARB hybrid warranty but overall very reliable. He/she said Gen 2 experience was good so sounds like a lemon.
