I had my 12 v battery replaced at the toyota shop two years ago. Then they put in an Optifit 45Ah.

The battery didn’t work after my car stood still at the toyota repair shop for two months this year waiting for a new catalyst.

After many rounds of discussions the finally replaces the battery for another second hand one from a taxi. But this one is only 35 Ah. I mentioned this to the repair shop but they said this battery is the “original original” battery, not the Optima. And therefore the battery is better than the 45 Ah Optifit even if its smaller/weaker. Said the repair shop.

See plictures of the two batteries.

Is this true? i would really appreciate an explaination.

For the 2004-2009 (not certain about later years or areas other than North America) The 45 ah battery was OEM for the cars that had the SKS system, which allowed you to keep the keyfob in your pocket. The 35ah battery was OEM for the cars that didn't have SKS, and required you to insert the keyfob into the dash slot to start the car.

A little research on ToyotaPartsDeal shows the 45ah battery was OEM from 2004 through 2012. part # 28800-21170
Your repair facility may be blowing smoke. Once again, not sure about outside of NA.The battery they installed may be an OEM Toyota battery, but it's not showing as an option for your model car in NA. Look at the top of the battery, there are usually numbers on the top center area that show the manufacture date code.

Why did they replace the battery? Sitting for 2 months will usually discharge the 12V on any car. Did they charge and test the "old" unit?

45 AH is nice but 35AH is great especially if it works I mean your car's not using that much juice to be worried about the 10AH the battery being stable and able to function is more important than the AH at this particular time at least to me anyway. I don't care if my battery says 100 AH on it If it's not functioning and working it's essentially zero AH at this point I would just want something in the car working I've seen people with motorcycle batteries in these cars temporarily which turns into months

    Thanx for your input!

Why i care is because i live in scandinavia with cold winters. And i have executive with SKS which apparently uses more battery than the ordinary version.

Today the battery draines from 83-69 just standing still.

The difference between 35 AH and 45 AH only matters much if something (for example, a lengthy period of non-use, or leaving a door ajar, or leaving a light on) runs the battery down, or nearly does. My 35 AH is still going after 7½ years.

I believe you can turn the SKS function pretty much off with the button under the steering wheel so it doesn't constantly search for the remote or look for all the sensors or whatever the deal is I have a button on mine and supposedly for extended periods of rest or what have you You're supposed to I think push it in.

Thanks, but i love my sks and really don’t want to lose that. Its one of many great things with the car.

Well, I’ll probably just toss the 35ah and by my self a new better battery. Maybe a yellow optima that is supposed to do better in cold weather? Or what are your recommendations?

In priuschat, somehow we all live in warm climate with an attached car garage and tell each other to diy. Funny thing is that not everyone lives in a house and has a garage or shares the same climate but we still repeat it

Climate, cold temperatures in particular, are much more challenging for a lead-acid battery that must crank a cold engine than to the 12-v one in a Prius. Booting up a computer and throwing a relay doesn't require added power due to cold---unlike pumping and shearing cold oil.

The OEM Yuasa in my 2013 Prius II lasted 10 years (2012 manufacture date). Replaced it with OEM from a local Toyota Dealer for less than I could find any suitable replacement.

Yeah now all your apartments have laws you can't even put your hood up or the cops show up I grew up in a time when I lived in an apartment in Western Massachusetts and I could have my car up on blocks in the parking lot for a month yeah the lady would sometimes come by and say hey you know blah blah blah but the car was always clean looked okay and even if it was up on blocks the tires were on it so it just looked like a raised car a lot of people didn't even didn't know it was being worked on because they were I guess dummies I don't know but yeah much has changed not for the better necessarily I guess people abused some of those privileges and became entitled something and others and companies came along and bought up apartments and set up rules and HOAs and whatever the heck goes on in these places now It is a mess I do realize how bad it is not to have a house and a place That's why I let people come out to my place and work on their stuff because I live out in the country they can park the car out here for 3 months for all I care just as long as they're making progress simple enough I'm simple person. I believe people should be able to do what they need to do not be embellished with a bunch of wannabe laws and ignorance but that's the way of our world that's why I don't live amongst people much I'm out in the country 7/8 mi out of town on purpose because of all the laws and ignorance that's going on in the town or the city It is absolutely mind-boggling you have all these rules and regulations but people are defecating in the street outside of $3,000 a month apartment buildings hysterical

Yeah in the super cold you would just I guess pushing the SKS button and it won't hurt for the remote
Pushing the button just turns the SKS off. For the time that the buttons pushed in you don't lose the SKS it's just turned off because you're going to be away from the car not using it for a while. Where I live my remote stays in the car in the slot all the time most everywhere I go the remote stays in the slot all the time because when I'm at the Walmart or the part store or wherever I can generally see my car right out the window and I don't live in a high crime area as many May. So I never turned the SKS off as a matter of fact now my remote doesn't even unlock the doors The board is bad The only thing that does work on the car is I guess the SKS or that's not correct what does work on the cars the transponder function the little chip that's in the bottom of the remote until I put the remote in the slot the beeps won't even start with the door open now when the remote was fully functional and I could unlock the doors with the buttons. The beeping would start the minute I open the door with the remote board busted broken not working now only the transponder works I can't start the car at all till the remote goes in the slot and the beeps start with the door open then I close the door push the button and the car starts right up. This is not how it was I don't ever lock the car so that's not a huge issue to me and if I wanted to I could lock it with the key or I would lock it with the buttons close the door and then open the driver door with the key push the unlock button so the trunk is unlocked put my little key back in the remote stick the remote in the slot the beeping starts is ready to start the transponder has recognized the key or the chip and the car is good to go.
