Cat Security. Their website will show mechanics who can install it. The trick is to
I had Cat Security shield installed. Their site lists repair shops by state (even included some dealerships) who can install it. Unit is connected by installing rivets to make it harder to remove. The Prime being so low to the ground, jacking up the car is needed to ensure the metal plate is flat installed cleanly so it won’t rattle. Mechanic told me they uninstalled and reinstalled the work of a DIY due to this problem.

Well yea - if you're in LA county - bad areas where you can legally go down to the appliance store & steel anything under $1,000. No gang enhancement sentencing.... Then - compare that to the area we moved to - where nearly ½ the legal citizens are openly & concealed carrying.
You vote in politicians who do nothing and you get what you deserve.

Where is the best location for putting this wireless anti theft alarm? My cat is getting replaced this week and I’m concerned it might happen again.

I just watched video and this alarm doesn’t sound like it’s loud enough for someone to hear in a parking lot but I suppose better than nothing.

    Thanks

Forget the alarm. Bring your vehicle down to a local ironwork metal working shop and have those guys weld a rebar cage around your cat.

Just 2 sticks of rebar at each end will do. Make a rebar "cage" and weld two ends of the rebar to the metal chassis below.

Or take to a mechanic see if they can do it.

That will work 100% they won't waste time trying to cut through rebar.

I bought one from amazon. Its T shaped. In Houston, everyone steals everything. Its bad. Record catalytic thefts. Most shops will put it in relatively cheap...somewhere $50-$80 range.
    Usually takes about 30min.
U know, for the price, it gives a lot of piece of mind. I had my converter stolen from my tundra and its a terrible feeling to have anything taken and vandalized. Good luck

Any body metal surface that will transmit the vibrations of the car being jacked. Try to point the siren down, so sound will resonate.
Note: an alarm or CAT shield isn't going to prevent a thief from stealing it - but they will look for an easier target; if they run into an alarm or CAT shield. That is the point of this exercise. A thief is going to steal, unless someone physically stops them.

Last week, someone posted a picture of a gal under a car with a battery operated saw. The local news station picked up the story and blurred out her face. Her arm tattoos was still visible. Really, handicapping identification of the suspect???? Why bother to broadcast the story, if they're not interested in apprehending the suspect?

    Strange days..... Hope this helps....

Why would you tell people that this makes the car stiffer in turns?

Maybe a new type of device needs to be made where there are fins sticking out far enough so that it makes their cutting saws not reach the pipe to make it harder to reach/uncut-able. Not sure if we have enough ground clearance. I'm starting to see thieves still take them now even with the guards installed.

What's needed are tougher laws prohibiting the sale of stolen cats.

Connecticut has just enacted a new law, which took effect July 1, enacting several requirements for scrap metal processors, junk yard owners and others who receive and sell catalytic converters. It focuses on deterring criminals from selling stolen devices.

The new law makes it illegal for motor vehicle recyclers to receive a catalytic converter unless it is physically attached to a vehicle. It also creates new requirements to help police more easily track down who is selling stolen parts.

Hey, it's a step in the right direction.

I do not know. It felt stiffer. Who cares! No one else from NA are buying these parts. These Toyota TRD parts are only sold in Japan and to other parts of Asia where drivers actually appreciate all type of drivers.

It actually does feel better driving wise. If I replaced the stock suspension with aftermarket, I can guarantee that it will be stiffer.

Plus this best motoring video comparing the two vehicles have professional drivers who can attest to the parts working as intended.

    Cheers!

I read about that a while ago. So, does that mean that when a repair shop needs to replace a customer's cat, they have to do it a the recycler's business rather than on the hoist in their own shop? That ain't gonna fly.

Perhaps not perfect, but it's a start, which is far better than complaining and doing nothing.

"The implementation of Public Act 22-43 is an important act. With this action, the state will have new rules about how auto recyclers, junk dealers, junkyard owners, scrap metal processors, and auto repair shops can buy and sell catalytic converters.

This law was passed to cut down on the number of stolen catalytic converters in the state. In addition, part of the law will make it illegal for auto recyclers to take a car’s catalytic converter if it is not still attached to a vehicle.

How does Public Act 22-43 work?

Before taking a catalytic converter that isn’t attached to a car, scrap metal processors, junk dealers, and junk yard owners and operators must do several things.

Recyclers must either put a stock number on the part of the catalytic converter or write it on the piece. They must also write down the transaction. This written record needs to include the customer’s name, address, phone number, license number, and vehicle identification number (VIN).

They must also get the name, address, and driver’s license number of the person selling the item. They also have to take a picture of the person selling the part and their driver’s license.

Sellers can only sell one catalytic converter daily to a scrap metal dealer. The only way to pay a seller is by sending a check to their home address. Once a week, scrap metal processors and junk dealers must send the Connecticut State Police information about their catalytic converters via email."

CA just passed a couple making it that recyclers can't buy cats unless it's from the owner or dealer, mandating records of the sales transaction and other details. I hope other states follow suit.

Hopefully that slows it down. But you know how it is...some wise guy will forge papers and the scrap yard will look the other way. Lol. Smh.
    But thats great.
Tx is a mess. Houston had some oridnance placed, but theft hasnt slowed.
Im moving off topic, some couple in Houston paid cash for a stolen vehicle. The title was a forgery.
They went to the dmv and were told....womp womp.
Anyways its hot in texas. But technically its fall. Nice weather here, regardless. Hopefully yall are having some good weather.
Better than florida. God bless 'em.
