Did you pay for the repair? My 2009 Prius had an inverter failure as well but it was with the previous owner. They had it repaired under the Toyota Extended Warranty and I bought it straight after the repair with a brand new inverter. Sounds like inverter failures aren't really that rare.

Have you done an inverter replacement? How hard could it be? Disconnect both batteries, swap inverter, reset codes, reconnect both batteries. Anything else in there?

    Yeah, have done before.
    1. Disconnect service plug, after disconnecting the aux
    2. Wait few minutes for HV battery to discharge
    3. Open cover of inverter
    4. Disconnect the 10mm bolts attached to MG1&2; and AC compressor connectors
    5. Unhook the hoses attached to the inverter(from the inverter pump) underneath the drive side headlamp, and clamp them so coolant doesn't waste.
    6. Replace the new or used one in reverse order.
    7. Cycle the ignition

There was some talk by Toyota Canada, that a part, which is physically within the inverter case, is not part of the inverter, exempt from a warranty extension. From there on out I kinda lost all trust in Toyota, seems like they're ready to do the dirty at every chance.

Hi Yousefi, I've got same problem in my Prius 2009 as you described. Toyota is asking for $5000 to fix it, which is way too much for me. Can you please tell me how did you manage to get it fixed or ended up paying them $4500 ? Your reply will help me alot in this hard situation. Thanks.

Find a used one from a wrecker or online and pay someone to install it. Toyota might even install it for you if you pay labour.

Same situation here, not impressed with Toyota head office, local dealer tried to help, but not interested.
Toyota quote $5000, got to be kidding.
Some interesting reading online about 15 years offered in the US but not Australia.
Looking at replacing myself with a late model inverter with the updated transistors, meanwhile car is dead.

We have 3 hybrids (Prius, Camry and RAV4) and used to tell all our friends to get one, not any longer.
Toyota could loose it's great name on this one.

Update on 2010 Prius in Australia. The inverter recently died and Toyota wanted $5k to replace.
After extensive research decided to source a second hand newer model online.
Managed to find one out of an Auris (UK car) for a reasonable price.
    Original: G9200 47140
    Replaced by: G900 47190

Took around 8 hours to remove and replace, all working fine now.
Of course only time will tell.

    kc410 and Raygon like this.

How did you know the Auris inverter would work before you bought it?
