For the past 2 years I had a bulk supply of oil filters [90915YZZN1] and I'm down to my last oil filter. I went online to my nearby dealers parts website and it says the oil filter is now no longer available. What are the options now? I've used Wix oil filters in the past but they are not as cheap compared to the Toyota ones. I see websites like this that seem to carry the filter yet the Toyota website says it's no longer available. Has this happened before and it later comes back in stock or is it just gone now?
Literally every single department store and auto parts store near you has an oil filter that fits on your Prius and the hundreds of different labels are nearly irrelevant because there's only a few primary manufactures of oil filters and all of them do nearly the same job. I mean how loyal to a label on a box of cardboard do you think you need to be?
Your dealer filters or Toyota filters are cheaper than fram tough guard at Walmart I find that hard to imagine but no matter and wix too that's on the lower end of the scale unless they make some top of the line filter or equal to tough guard and the like for the Gen 2 this is a spin on like 4397 or 4297 I can't remember by heart but it's one of the most popular. That should not be any kind of issue you should be able to get the frams by the case online and I would think wix too is wix gone out of business or something?
More research needs to be done... I simply asked Google who makes Toyota branded oil filters and that was the answer, but it's also likely the default answer for all Toyota parts that Toyota doesn't make themselves. There's plenty of parts makers beyond Denso for Toyota.
As many eBay and Amazon buyers have learned, there's also plenty of parts makers calling their stuff Denso.
Just belly up to dealership parts department, say you need oil filter (and drain bolt washer) for such-and-such car; they’ll fix you up.
I just bought 2 this weekend, one for my camry hybrid and one for Prius. Did an oil-change-weekend. I usually buy the oil filters at our local Toyota dealer since Walmart and parts store can't beat their price and with free drain plug gasket too! I paid $13 for both.
I have to check but I know I paid for the washer but the filter and washer combined were right around $6 or $7, so it looks like a wash. EDIT: $5.41 and $1.13 =$6.57. (So, does that mean I got a “free” washer)
Yeah my latest was $7.91 for the filter (same as yours, I did the conversion to spin-on) and $1.33 for the washer. Canadian funds. Sounds sim, with the conversion.
