Hello All, I have a 2007 with a dead display as of yesterday. I don't have DICE, the 12V is a Yellow Optima replacement two years ago. As far as I can remember, everything was normal two days ago, yesterday....no display. I checked fuses and all OK. I drove the car about 30 minutes yesterday and no change, so I don't think the 12V battery was low. I don't know the level of the car, but it's not a touring edition, has the backup camera, no nav. I've reviewed some of the different repair options on Prius Chat. I'm comfortable taking the display in and out myself....but there's no way to replicate what Hobbit did with his display...I don't have the tools or the patience. My question is....is there a definitive list of troubleshooting items I should try before getting in contact with peeF (I think that's who I saw as a possible repair option)? Thanks Tony
Make sure the display is dead in all conditions, and not just turned off. If it is truly dead, contact peeF. Tom
OK, I guess I'm at a loss on this one. All conditions? If I hit any of the buttons, nothing happens. If there's something I'm missing beyond that...I'm all ears. Thanks Tony
Has something changed? ========== Q? are you repairing 2006 thru 2009 MFD's? A. not at this time ========== I have a 2007.
That's what I'd do. They're down right cheep now days, and being familiar with the tear down - you can do a swap out in just a few minutes.
Hi guys, this is my first posting, and reply. 2008 Prius, with 103,000 miles. Great car until my MFD died. I am pissed that with all the important and vital safety related funtions, it's not warrantied like a seatbelt or something. The dealer quoted $1,400 for a rebuilt. My question is, what does their "book" say for the # of hours it takes to swap it out? I got the dealer to "good will" out of their pocket (not Toyotas) the part, and I pay the labor. Any help with answers is appreciated. btw...why isn't this a recall issue? seriously...i'm still mad...... a non moving part going dead after shy of 4 years old. Not Toyota quality in my mind. Could it be damn heat that car generates with all the glass?
Replacement, if you're handy, is a DIY job. Search the site, lots of threads on how to repair or replace
I disagree. I have taken the dash apart without problem down to the MFD, and no one confuses me for being handy Seriously, easy replacement job. Repair is another matter.
There are no safety issues associated w/a dead MFD. Recalls are for issues described at What is a Safety Recall? | Safercar.gov | NHTSA and Motor Vehicle Defects and Safety Recalls: What Every Vehicle Owner Should Know | Safercar.gov | NHTSA , not failing parts like the MFD. I would try to get the dealer to take it up w/Toyota corporate, to see they'll cover some of the cost of replacement.
I assume peeF was/is a forum member who at one time did repairs on electronics. Now I would just pull the old MFD out to get the part number and get another from ebay. (assuming that all the powers and grounds to it are ok.) Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I got my display fixed by AutoBeYours. They’re an outfit in Indiana that specializes in fixing multifunction displays. You have to take the unit out of your car yourself and ship it off to them, and I was driving without it for roughly 2 weeks before I got it back. Steve and his staff did a good job fixing my display and at a flat charge of $299, it was less than a quarter of the price I was quoted to replace it with a used one from a dealer.
