understand the wasteful thing. Even so, there are plenty of folks living in snow climates that benefit (commercially or personally) from 4x4's - whether EV, or plugin hybrids or gassers.
I guess they could all move to dry / sunny climate areas - help polish off the remaining water reserves in AZ, Nevada, So cal etc.

I’ve driven RWD/2wd all my life in Northern Wisconsin. Unless I’m forced will never own AWD. FWD yes 4WD no.

Can’t help folks that don’t know how to drive in the winter

With one of the Blazer EV trims you can have your choice of FWD, RWD, or AWD.

I agree on AWD not being needed for most getting it. On an EV, the AWD efficiency penalty is small though. Since people are still going to by trucks, and some actually need one, 67 to 70 mpge is better than getting maybe low 20's in mpg from an ICE.

If the Maverick comes as PHEV trim I will have another 2wd truck. My antique 2wd is getting quite rusty and worn on the front suspension.

Funny part was my “trucks” both from the 80’s were 28mpg and 50mpg affairs .

Would still own one like either if I could find one that’s not rusted out and worn.

Sadly VW Rabbit 5mt diesel trucks in 2022 are too much tinkering to keep alive.

    Re: Toyota/Panasonic
I should have copied link but I saw yesterday, that Toyota/Panasonic have secured contract to source lithium from the US supplier.

    It becomes clearer

Toyo lobbies the only guy making decisions for the entire country who was elected by under 2% of its citizens

    It’s nice being king

The inflation reduction act just passed thru senate today. This is the largest hurdle.
It still needs to be reapproved by Congress/house but that should not be a big
    Deal.

But, A lot can still change in reconciliation. I think right now they need to figure out either one of two things:
    1. Later phase-in for battery requirements
    2. Open up the list of friendly nations
Other then that I've seen an article or two about how the transportation secretary might write some rules to get around it.

It looks like only EVS made in America will qualify. that tosses out quite a few manufacturers. Plus then, with the max EV price cap, even though Tesla's are made in the usa, they too won't qualify

It looks like that until you understand the double speak of “cost” percentages which mean certain “foreign materials “ costs might fall under the “percentage” targets

My guess is the lobbiests and lawyers wrote it to target specific brands / models and if they didn’t reconciliation will find the error and tweak the numbers.

Funny how a bill written by certain Republicans can still get a no vote by the same Republicans isn’t it?

I do not understand the new EV rules yet, but maybe the House will modify so its a little early to try to learn it.

Yup, this bill is terrible....... in that anything that would've directed affected me has been stripped away. Still, it's better than nothing. I have lots of issues with it but as with a lot of things, without compromises, we get nothing.

Given current EV sales, I don't think there is any need for tax credits or refunds at all, maybe next year. But democrats will lose their thin majority come January so better to make this law before then.

So the credit applies only to specific used EVs?

What a garbage law, will cost more to implement and track than it gives out.

Worse it doesn’t apply to used (realistically) until 2024

I am already hearing people grumbling that their EV delivery date in 2023 is now beyond their means

I am not clear on used EV's rules. Maybe I buy @hill's used Pacifica PHEV if I get big discount.

Overall this sounds possibly good for hybrids still making sense, whereas metals requirements are less, so it seems to throw a little bit of slowdown on the idea of rapid mandate of large China-sourced EV Batts in USA.

I was a bit shocked at the Bill language calling out China and Russia as bad guys (paraphrasing). Geez Congress where do you think stuff is made? And do they think we will allow the dirty work here? No we just want the easy part : the clean work, like assembly, we value assembly... but somebody has to agree to do the dirty work. Sort of confusing where this is heading.

According to the Alliance for Automotive Innovation, the auto industry’s main lobbying group, there are currently 72 EV models available for purchase in the United States, including battery, plug-in hybrid, and fuel cell electric vehicles. Of those models, 70 percent are ineligible for the tax credit when the bill passes.

From their own article, 70% are ineligible. But they put out a clickbait article saying "No electric vehicles" qualify. I am glad they hold up the great integrity of the press.

30% sometimes is no different than none.

Does anyone have the model list?
