i gave my stepson my 08 and he wrecked in in the fall and let it sit and the Battery pack went dead we think. He put a new 12volt in it but engine would not start up. Is there a way to recharge hybrid pack? Thanks

You can get the equipment from Hybrid Automotive or go to the dealer for a high priced charge:cool:.

Where are you located, as someone in the area might be able to assist(y).

My catalytic converter was stolen during the pandemic then I let it sit for about a year, so the hybrid battery is definitely dead. (Dash and head unit lights up with a jump, but no engine.) I'd like to get the 180K mile car running again to let my newly licensed kids drive around town. My insurance company will pay for a new converter and I can put in a new 12V battery. I realize I may need a new HV battery, but it was OK a year ago...

Has anyone ever recharged a HV battery without going to a dealer?

PriusCamper is near Portland, maybe able to charge your battery. If his expertise is still for hire. I’ll see if he has time to help.

Thanks for the reply! It looks like the chargers you linked to may be more than necessary for a one time recharge of the HV battery. After a bit of research on youtube, it looks like I might be able to use a modified laptop adapter to charge 2 cells at a time without much disassembly at all, after disconnecting the HV connections to the car. If I'm careful, maybe I don't even have to remove the whole thing from the car, just remove the case. If I could get it to run for just a year or two more as my kids learn to drive, I would be happy. :)

You'll probably want to remove pack and get it on a work bench for cleaning of corrosion and inspecting... It's way more hassle than most people realize to work on it in the car. And after some practice it only takes 20 minutes to pull the pack and strip it down.

Guess my friend got lucky because they left a Prius sitting for 2 years and hybrid battery was still good
