I've run through the threads and unfortunately did not find anything similar to the issue that I was having. My key fob fell into the pool. I was able to dry it and then removed the battery since it was leaking. I replaced it with a new battery. I used the WD40 method to dry the chip. It unlocked the car once and then stopped working. Since I was in a location that I needed to move my car, I drove it home by inserting the fob. I tried to reset the SKS button, but keyless did not work. So I figured, I would let it sit overnight before attempting it again. In the morning, I used the key fob and was able to lock and unlock the car with the buttons, but keyless did not work. I tried to reset the SKS button again, but it still did not work. Any idea what it might be? Edit: Do I need to reprogram something?
Oh no... I've no idea what the WD40 method is, but it doesn't sound like it worked. Please let us know more details? Can you still start the car?
Likely some corrosion formed on the circuit board. Someone well versed in electronics repair might be able to clean the delicate bits on the board. How do you "reset" the SKS? The button under the steering column just enables or disables the system. Might need to get a replacement fob. (You need 1 fully functional fob in order to add a NEW one via a scantool or the "chicken dance"). Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I went on Youtube and someone used WD40 to remove any water that may have been on the chip still and was able to get theirs to work. The car had no trouble starting as long as I insert the key fob. I am able to unlock/lock the car with the key fob buttons after I left it overnight, but I cannot get the keyless function to work.
I'm not sure what was different, but it decided to all work today. The keyless and all of the functions worked without messing with anything. It is actually kind of a blessing that it fell in the pool since the lock button was actually not working previously. Thank you for all of the responses.
Great. If this fob works 100% do you have a second fob as well?. If not then you might want to get a new one and program it to the car (either use the "chicken dance" or a compatible scantool). Having only one fob and then losing / breaking it is super inconvenient. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
