What do you guys think? Will this give me better MPGs or more Horsepower/Torque? I expect at least better horsepower/torque as the opening to get more air is bigger (slightly)? What do you guys think? Serious answers only please! CARBON POWER AIR CLEANER | BLITZ
Definitely looks very cool! Two things to consider - isn't the intake going to be hot air from inside the engine compartment? Also, my understanding is that the airflow restriction is at the throttle body and not at the intake? Nonetheless, I have to admit it looks sweet.
Haha .... yeah .... I mean it sounds and feels more responsive if that matters !! The mod was just about 400 all said and done. Shipped direct from Japan. They do include a heatshield. And that goes directly underneath the filter/carbon housing as there is a "hot" coolant hosing that runs nearby. It sort of blocks the existing OEM air duct that I left in there too. Yeah OEM should be "colder" but the OEM filter housing does have a restrictive OEM filter and another restrictive oiled filter in that housing. The PLUS for the OEM air ductwork is that the air is fed directly from the front grill!! So I am losing out on that now. Instead that air just gets passed thru the existing air ductwork and flows into the engine bay. Overall MPG remains the sameish. I drive EV city then gas usually on the highway. Before the mod I get 700 to 800 miles on a single tank. After the mod I get the same-ish. Haha I admit it is a bit lower as I am flooring it a lot more now just to "hear" the engine noise. I think I can still get 800 miles to a tank. Shouldn't change drastically.
Yea absolutely! You can hear the audio in the gif above! I notice a definite improved engine noise in the cabin. Before it was unimpressive, now it is a bit more confident sounding! If that makes any sense? It is definitely more responsive. I can't measure that easily for you, but my foot can feel the difference.
Ah - ok yeah i usually have sound muted. Let us know how it works out. I'll be checking it out myself.
Possibly, but it is just $400 bones not a big loss for my own happiness! =P These Prime's are already saving a boat load of money from charge at home and gas prices rising !
I hope you saved your OEM air box. Good luck passing your first smog test. Is that even CARB legal? Looks like a modern version of that old aftermarket Vortex, Cyclone, or Tornado air box system. "the enhanced rotation of air into your engine"; is like putting an E.D. pill into your gas tank..... Watch out GIRLS...... Sorry; I took some liberties on that last bit.......... didn't realize a certain pharmaceutical pill for E.D. was a banned word. Hopefully I don't get in trouble for this - It's just a joke....
Yeah, the airbox is just placed in a plastic container. Pretty easy to put back in. I'm aware of california CARB. People spend more money on gas in a month than I did with my air filter box. I mean......... have you seen the prices lately?? I still spend relatively the same on gas as I did before the gas hike. Get about 80 to 90 mpg average at fill-up. Maybe 700 to 900 miles on a full tank.
yeah just take the filter apart and use a KN airfilter cleaner and oil spray. Then reinstall the filter. So far after 5,000 miles my filter still looks brand new!! Keep the old airbox in case you need to pass smog in the future.
$400 for that? If it actually would have boosted mpg or hp toyota spending hundreds of millions into their tech would have included, it themselves.
Yeah you are right. But we already save so much. The Prius Prime is as efficient as a Model 3 but costs wayyyy less new. Every one spends where they want to spend. I mean a Tacoma will spend about 40K worth in gas in 10 years. Where as our Prime and Model 3 spend roughly 14K to 15K in fuel costs. Electricity is included in those numbers. Toyota engineers built their air housing to do the job. This Blitz filter both looks good and sounds good. And oh yeah it does it's job. So I am happy with the small bones I paid. 400 is a drop in the bucket.
Hey, whatever makes you happy! Cars aren't all about practicality - modding is a fun hobby too. My only worry with any K&N style oiled filter is that they're known to flow well but filter poorly.
