Wow, I can't believe you are finding deals at MSRP being out of state. Every dealership I have contacted is either out of inventory, marking up several thousand, or not selling to out of state buyers. NY, CT and VT are the only states I have reached that sell at MSRP.

Looks like the $1500 rebate is gone as of today. I checked a few ZIPs and it's either gone entirely (NJ) or reduced to $500 (NY, MD). I wonder if dealers will come down to match.

It appears that my local NY dealer is also showing $500 customer cash incentive now. Down from $1500 which it had been since last year.

Quick look at East and West Coast PP Toyota Cashback for this month shows no more than $500, nothing in some zip codes. Used to be $1500 the past 6 months or so. Correct ?

YES, NE region PP cashback is now reduced to $500. You get a better cashback of $1000 with TFS financing on Avalon.

Darn, this sucks. In my region the 1500 customer cash is now a 500 finance credit now. Was on a waiting list for 5 months and just this month it's going to be my turn and bam $1500 more. Ah well, I'm going to wait for the 2023 model coming out next month if there isn't going to be a change in price.

So last year. $5500 Toyota Cash Back + below MSRP + $4502 USA tax credit + any state/local incentives. Don't bother to watch this 20 min video from last year. But it does reflect a previous time, seemingly so long ago.

Yeah, the 2021 model was the last such price found in CARB states. I got the last 2021 on the lot with $12K off MSRP 11 months ago.

We traded in 3 years in a row with no net loss. It was great while it lasted!

It can still last while the whole tax credit is available. You still have about 4 months left.

Yeah, but now Toyota cashback basically gone ($500 in NE) and many dealers marking up the sales price, PP is no longer a bargain-priced value king. I would not trade in my 2021 PP knowing I purchased it for $12K off MSRP, and get a new 2022 PP knowing it will be close to MSRP even after full tax credit.

Isn't the resale value close to MSRP now? If so, you can exchange it for no net loss. You'll get a new newer model and 0 miles. The problem is locating that new car and without a markup.

Last I checked (~6 mo ago), the resale value of my PP was ~$4.5K less than the MRRP of $35K. Yeah, I will make a profit on the car if I sell it at that price since I purchased it for ~$12K off MSRP. But with capital gain tax, new car mark-up, renewed (higher) excise tax, renewed (higher) insurance, and all other costs that go with a new car purchase, I may not even break even with a new purchase at an MSRP.

Unless the used car market has heated up even more, I can't imagine a 6 month older and 4K miles more on my 2021 PP sells for more now. Besides, you are absolutely correct in that this "trade-in" thing only works if there is a car to be purchased. I have not seen a PP for sale on a lot for almost a year now. And if a dealer advertises one on their website, it is already spoken for by someone who pre-ordered it a long time ago.

Factory rebate in Southern California is only $500 now. Not good at all, especially in May!

Wonder if it's because maybe the factory don't have as many available if they are affected by a chip shortage or because of something else.

We got our Prime XLE back in 2020 by having the dealership do a factory order, had to wait about 3 to 4 months but we were not in a hurry but just wanted to get the model and color we wanted.

I thought that factory orders didn't exist with most Japanese vehicles - especially ones made in Japan. Are you sure they didn't do a dealer trade when they found one that met your requirements?

First I heard that, maybe it's a new policy if they no longer do factory orders. Anyhow we did get a factory order as I remember seeing the tracking when it came into port and then had to be ground transported to our local dealership. Being in the southeast we live in a non-carb state so back then there were a very limited number of hybrid cars on any car lots in the state and plug-in hybrids were even more rare. The only Prius Prime XLEs (which were very very few) anywhere close by were not the color we wanted. We were not in a big hurry and figured if we were going to pay for a new car we wanted to get it in the color we wanted. Our local dealership had to write up a factory order and forward it to the regional Toyota office which in turn transmitted the order to the factory in Japan. It took somewhere around 3 to 4 months to get the car but it was worth the wait to get what we wanted.

Longo Toyota is no longer accepting any customer orders, with more than 11,000 orders currently backed up. I am still #25 on the Prius Prime Limited list, which means that they haven't received any in two weeks. I would be surprised if my order was filled in less than a year from now. Longo Toyota thinks the car shortage will last for another two–three years. Good luck if you are in need of a new car!
