Long story short, I finished a gen 4 swap into my ā€˜12v. On a short test drive, it got hot. But cooled off when I drove more gentle.
Then I heard a pop noise, not a hose blowing off, but it comes up with a bunch of codes ( low engine power) was one I remember right now. I limped it the last two miles home, and it will not stay running, even in maintenance mode.
Iā€™m trying to get the video to upload or link.

Are the coolant reservoirs still full? Coolant moving in both reservoirs?

Wondering if the pop noise was a fusible link or fuse...like the one on your battery pack safety switch, or in the fuse box

Once those engines get hot it's usually over.
Sounds like vacuum line blew off...
But that wouldn't cause it to heat up.
Gen 3. Terrible car when they get miles on them. All gas savings lost and lots of headaches when the bad things start happening.

I second the vacuum line. Maybe the heating caused a backfire. I had the PCV and EVAP hoses blow in October of 21. I swore the sound was a High Voltage Short. Engine would not stay running.

Ultimate cause was covered in TSB with an update to the EVAP software (And $750). The TSB may apply to you.
