I just bought a 2-14 Prius for my son. It does not have a back up camera. I thought I read somewhere that it was possible to add a back up camera and tie it into my display. Is this possible and if it is could someone point me in the right direction? Thanks
Does your 2014 already has a factory screen or just a plain CD player radio stereo? I bought a inexpensive 9" Android headunit for $150 from eBay. It comes with a backup camera, GPS maps, wifi & bluetooth to connect to your phone. All you need to do is to put the necessary wires the camera to the hatch, connect with your reverse light and it can even syn with your existing steering wheel buttons!
The dealership I bought my car from mislabeled my car as a 5 trim when it is the basic 2 trim. It doesn't come with a backup camera, so I I bought a Garmin GPS and paired it with a Garmin Rear Camera that sits with the license plate. It's very interesting how other drivers interpret my camera!
I hope you have better success with your Garmin than we had with ours: the last time I updated it before a long trip it was telling me to take the right fork where there wasn't one, and showed me driving in the middle of a cornfield and not on the highway.
My neighbor recently acquired this basic 2 trim Prius and looking for a back up camera option and headlights upgrade since the passenger side is damaged. That seems a good option for a back up camera. We'll finish installing the rotors and method wheels on the truck before we can clear the garage for the Prius.
i haven't done it yet, but there's a product on Amazon from PYvideo for this. It apparently comes with some videos that i cannot find (probably private link only). It seems it's a matter of just removing trim, probably a 2-3 hr job according to reviews. It's only $100. I'll be doing this to my prius here soon
