2021 Prius Prime all of a sudden driving in EV mode a lot (not charged). Gas mileage has gone up 10+ mpg in recent drives (to 65-70 mpg). Great for wallet but mechanical Issue?

Those numbers sound about right for rural or city driving in a Prime. At 50 mph on level ground my Prime only runs the engine about 50% of the time. In those situations I get 65 mpg or better. Over 60 mph on level ground, the ICE will run almost continuously.

Lotsa folks here drive nearly always in EV for months. The car will warn you if the gas in the tank is getting stale and reading the manual it only expects you to burn 5 gallons in 12 months.. so about half a tank of gas in a year. If you're filling up more often than once a year you're good to go

i don't understand your first sentence. do you mean the engine is running less, but all other variables are the same?

I think I misunderstood. Are you worried that the car is hesitant to use the gas engine because of a possible fault?

If so, no you would definitely have a check engine light, dash warnings or it simply wouldn't let you start.

No, this is entirely normal. 65–70 mpg is still on the low side for the Prius Prime. EV-mode usage during HV driving varies. I got up to 120 mpg in 50-mile round-trip HV driving in stop-and-go traffic in warm weather.

My concern is...I typically average 55mpg, and all of a sudden its up to 65mpg+ (same exact commute). I am not charging the car but it seems to be using EV mode more than ever

Consistent long term 74ish on the mpg read out only.

Might be 4-5 mpg off. Very difficult to verify with SAMS club pumps all over the place in accuracy.

It did not get that high until 2-3 full charges. Now I just drive it and put gas in once in a while. :)
