Hey everyone! I'm in Cali as I know that matters but my aunt's Prius 2005 can pass smog, they told her it's the converter and now we're looking for a converter? I'm wondering if anyone has found where to buy them here in California? Thanks in advanced!
Either the OEM catalytic Converter or an aftermarket part from MagnaFlow. Those are the only parts approved by CARB for use in CA. Figure on about $2500 for either choice. I would certainly take the car to an independent prius repair shop to get a second opinion. Usually the P0420 code that pops up means the cat is bad and needs to be replaced, but there are a few other reasons that this can happen that are much less expensive to fix, but honestly, those other conditions a fairly rare. But it would be good to check.
Why did the car not pass inspection? Does it have a check engine light on? If so, what code(s) are present? Is the catalytic converter missing or incorrect (not approved OEM or aftermarket)? Has the catalyst monitor not completed? We need a bit more data before giving good advice. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Update: Aunt decided to go the dealership and just purchase it without diagnosing thank you everyone!
