    Dearest Prius Community,

    Does anyone know the clearance values to adjust tappets on the 1.8 petrol prius engine? Inlet and exhaust please.

    Many thanks

    Brilliant, thank you. But can this;
    1) hydraulic system fail?
    2) What can be the symptoms of a failure?
    3) Prognosis - how would I fix a failure in function of the system?

    The hydraulic system is so simple that it does not fail very often as long as you change engine oil regularly.

    They’re auto adjusting hydraulic, effectively zero clearance; no adjustment is needed.

    There are 16 individual lash adjusters, one for each valve, they're all identical, and they are fed from an oil gallery carrying pressurized engine oil from the oil pump.

    If you happen to have the camshafts out, you can lift the lash adjusters out of the head and test each one. There is a test method described in the repair manual. If one doesn't test well, you replace it. Each one is $33.59 suggested list.
