2005 prius, have one sks key fully working. have another used key from another car etc. does the new key need to be "virginized" for full sks functions or any functions to work? Is this unprogrammed silver logo sks key usable at all in its current state/what are my options? have techstream... thanks all
Yes, it does but I have not seen anyone linking to such a service for the gen 2. Gen 3, yes but Gen 2, no. If you know of such a service then a link to it would be very appreciated. In the absence of such a service, you need a brand new unused fob with a silver logo. Available from Olathe Toyota Online parts for $185.38, marked down from $253.94 (27% off). Part number 89994-47061 – Keyless Entry Transmitter.
Is this done with Techstream? If so, this PC guy probably would help. It is possible to program a used silver key with techstream. | PriusChat
Options for your used fob: 1) somehow "virginize" it and then program it to your car with techstream or "chicken dance". 2)have a capable locksmith (or dealer) get a seed code to reset the certification ecu and allow the original fob and used fob to be programmed to the car with techstream. (Or DIY if you have techstream and want to deal with a questionable website somewhere in Europe). 3)just program the immobilizer in the car (techstream- maybe chicken dance?) to let the fob start the car in the dash slot (that's the RFID chip in the fob shell). None of the SKS or remote entry functions will work- and you would need a new mechanical key cut to open the driver's lock. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
yes, as mr guy mann suggested, i was planning on going the cheapest route for a spare, program this non virginized 2nd gen key, have a normal type key cut for door as well as the insert in fob key, normal size/type key just to make the spare set actually usable in real life(who want to pull the slide out everytime...) later i can have a locksmith reseed if i care enough...or theres a china key with no logo on back(what i have currently for primary key with smart/sks functions working.) i will try china key with chicken dance eventually...i assume that key needs a reseed also though... and no, no virginization has been found for 2nd gen key... although for $185 plus tax shipping, then able to do chicken dance at no extra cost, new dealer key is most likely best way to go for someone that can do chicken dance programming, and wants sks/smart/proximity functions. a friend gave me a used 2nd gen key for free, so this will only cost me key cut costs, and key blank costs.
