Not sure if ericbecky can suggest a mechanic. Eric was nice enough to drive all the way to Rockford from Madison Wi to troubleshoot for DodgeK's scam battery. Quite the story. Maybe cheaper and less stress to drive out to Eric or meet him halfway for regular maintenance or diagnosis. At least until someone in Chicago has personal experience with a local Prius mechanic.

Right now I'm looking for a new hybrid battery. I've found a local guy, and 2 "we deliver and install" guys.
I think new brakes are in my future, as well.

I am looking for a new shop to take our 2007 Prius (250,000 or so miles). We used to use Midtown Victory Toyota on Cicero in the North West part of Chicago to get the oil changed and basic maintenance stuff. The last time I went there, the mechanic did not seem to know his way around my car at all. He had trouble figuring out how to start it. When I came to pick it up, he told me that I had brought the car with an empty tank of gas, and they had to put gas in it to get it to start again. I know there was half a tank when I dropped it off. There was half a tank when I picked it up. Am I to believe they put in four gallons of gas to get it started? They would not admit that they were unfamiliar with the car, and they treated me like a lady who didn't know how much gas was in her car. I need a mechanic who knows older years of Prius cars, and a mechanic who won't lie to me to try and cover their unfamiliarity with my car.

tldr; Looking for a mechanic in North West Chicago who knows how to work on 2007 Prius who won't try to take advantage of an old lady.

The dealers normally have minimum wage car jockeys and oil change attendants to move vehicles in and out of the service areas rather than mechanics.

Maybe try a different Toyota dealer instead of randomly looking on Google maps. You may get a mechanic that will take advantage of you. Maybe a member can suggest a mechanic they know.

This YouTube Toyota Master tech opened up shop in June of this year. He has a lot of Prius-specific videos, that have been linked here frequently. Seems a very diligent, knowledable Prius tech, with a large/modern shop.

I am hoping to get a referral from someone who has experienced the human who works at a shop and can endorse them.

It can be installed but it won't work. You'll still throw a check engine light.
