Just bought a used Prius V from dealer but after my only 2 long drives on the motorway (100km for 5 or 10 min) it started shaking really bad but only happened on the same stretch of road on the way to, on way back and short runs it was fine although I was 90km on way back both days. The first time it happened I had a turn off which made me come to the lights stop and it was ok. The 2nd time I was going all the way straight and shake felt so bad I had to pull to the side of the road and stop for a bit then go, by then I was in an 80 zone anyway.

I'm taking to to dealer workshop tomorrow but was wondering if anyone here could help as it really strange being intermittent and no warning lights or check engine lights just a violent shake coming from middle or front of car. My gut feeling was going over some road joins trigger this event as on that direction motorway there are many. I have dashcam footage of 2nd time it happened which I will show to Toyota technicians.

Nothing but a guess but if it "only happened on the same stretch of road" I would think its something like suspension, wheels or engine mounts. Pretty serious possibly if it shakes that much. By the way, always include the car's mileage. A way to isolate the engine as a possibility is to simply lift off the gas pedal which will shut off the engine.

Its 126k kms on the clock from what I can remember when I lift off the gas pedal shakes goes down slowly as I'm losing speed when I do that, till I come to a complete stop. I will be getting service centre to check all those things.

Not likely to be the engine. Could be as simple as a separated belt in a tire or a cv joint.

Ok thanks test drive on another motorway with service centre test driver did notice a small vibration but could not replicate what I had experienced. I will see what they find and go from there I just hope it's not a major accident vechicle with a bent frame or something hard to diagnose or fix.

Got it back tyre pressure was too high they lowered, uneven wear although still legal also all tyres out of balance so rebalanced, I'll see how I go hopefully by fixing those things it wont trigger this violent shake, but I will have to test on the same stretch of road where its occurred 2 out of 2 times, just have to go at the right time I.e. off peak due to traffic want to have free reign to get upto speed and test, due to other commitments could be in a couple of days and I'll report here.

Took it for a drive on motorway it didnt play up and drove smoother than before. Hopefully the fix is in but I intend to do more driving during this 3 month warranty period.

Clean the egr, Trottle body, breather pipe connected and check and clean the manifold.
200k miles on my prius gen3 had clogged manifolds ports, egr and Trottle body

It is unlikely to bethe same problem unless you drive down the same road in Australia. Try describing the problem with plenty of details.

I think I see your problem. You appear to be sitting in the wrong front seat! ;)

Seriously, my wife had a similar event on the freeway, visiting family three hours away while we were waiting for new struts and shocks to arrive. On a particular stretch of interstate, approaching a very busy major junction after a heavy truck weigh station, it started shaking like it was on a washboard road. She took the first exit and stopped. Started off again, and it was fine again.

Her two auto-savvy sons diagnosed it as bad dampers letting the strut(s) get into an oscillation from just the right bit of rough road. I replaced the struts, and the left one was completely blown. Tip it up and back, and the shaft just immediately dropped with utterly zero damping action. The right one was wimpy but still resisted movement. New KYB dampers all around have transformed the ride.
