I am thinking of getting one of these push buttons shifter for my 2010 3rd Gen Prius. They are used and arrived from Japan. Let's have a poll and which one would you rather go for?

Does the 'cookie' one really not have a giant, light-up logo on it like the other two have?

That would get my vote then. :) Dad was in the advertising biz, so he didn't raise me to go adding some company's big light-up logo to my stuff if they're not going to pay me for doing it.

I don't particularly like push button shifters. It's like the old "hunt and peck" method of typing.

My husband's friend developed the ideal "one finger" micro ball shifter for Prius models. There is no need to grab the shift knob and move it to the desired position, since you are not moving shifter forks as in a conventional manual transmission.

All you need do in is to place your index finger on the side of the knob and move it to the desired position.

Mine is on my Prius v, but he makes them also for the Gen 3 Prius. The shaft is shortened and threaded to achieve a short throw for minimal finger movement. micro shifter.jpg

I actually do like your husband's friend's setup. You can shift without really have to look for the correct button.

No, it does not. The letters light up in the color you set with several LEDs to form a big circle betweent the center console and the "cookie".

Yeah, it's like the joystick on a remote drone controller.

He buys used shifters for a nominal price, cleans and refurbishes them to near new functional conditions, modifies them by shortening the shaft and sells them for $70-$80 complete with a black micro knob he machines and polishes out of black PEEK (polyethylethyl ketone, one of the most durable and expensive high temperature plastics available).

He even prints a durable laminated stick on shifter pattern and places it on the knob for an OEM custom look,

He is a retired aerospace engineer and service technician and does at as a hobby rather than for profit to promote his ideas.

I remember seeing a member here with a low profile aluminum shifter knob. Like you said, he shortened and re-treaded the shaft. Aluminum can became really hot during summer under the sun though.

PEEK is very expensive and seldom used by auto manufacturers, Nylon 6-6 and ABS are currently used. The $70 Tom's and Cusco knobs use Duracon, which is Delrin or acetal co-polymer.

PEEK is used for aerospace interplanetary probed due to its durability and an effective replacement for aluminum without the thermal conductibility issues.

I have the OGS, first one in your pictures. I’ve had it for at least 10 years. No problems at all and still working flawlessly.

    many custom color combinations.
