I procured the engine and its transmission from JDM and I think it's in Belleville New Jersey it was delivered to my home in efland I brought the engine the transmission and the 2013 Prius to fill he took my engine which was damaged piston damage and transmission out put the new engine and transmission in and then handed me the car back to get it running I didn't want to spend a lot of money with him playing around with systems he doesn't really mess with a lot as far as troubleshooting it took him 6 hours to change the engine and transmission he did a beautiful job not a boat nothing missing that's not true he left the mounting bolt out of an inverter it's a 4 mm bolt that was laying on the front floor of the car I screwed it in was just a mounting bolt he did not have to undo the inverter or any of that he undid the mounts laid it to the side air conditioning compressor same so I got my car back with my air conditioning still charged up in my inverter never unbolted from the car pretty smooth the car runs great my phone number is on the web it's here in a billion post 919-892-0363 is me Tom d

There's no hybrid shops near efland there's one or two in Greensboro up the road and maybe one in Durham I wouldn't call them hybrid specialist but they would work on your hybrid but I wasn't looking for somebody to work on my hybrid I was looking for somebody to put in this engine and transmission I had the battery undone and all that for this guy so he wouldn't kill himself and then he handed the car back to me and I connected the battery put on my 300 volt charger did all the stuff and got it running and then because the car sat for a year I replaced the HV battery with the remanufactured thing from a guy up in Virginia I drove to pick it up I think 560 bucks and it works great the hybrid doctor in Virginia is who I deal with great guy

Umm... Do you realize that when you write comments like this they're so poorly written that they're impossible to make sense of? Why not speak in short simple sentences that are actually coherent?

He claims he can only do voice to text. I guess its a North Carolina thing. But if he can get a replacement engine in and running for "1966 US dollars" more power to him.

(Of course a 1966 US dollar is worth $8.87 today so the price could be outrageous depending on syntax)

(And no, I am not talking about Las Vegas Sin Tax)

    And post-dictation editting: fugedaboutit.

He likely has some gems, but it's such a tough read I put him on ignore.

I'm telling you what I paid where I bought the mess they advertise here and everything nothing special I pay the guy in my town that does this kind of work for the last 25-30 years now to do the install and that's that I imagine I could do this in California if I live there but maybe not because of inspection problems I don't know can't imagine the engine would cost me the same there from the same supplier they have a division out west so the shipping doesn't kill you so I don't know there's nothing to do with any money back in 1966 I was like 10 years old maybe we're talking this happened 65 80 days ago maybe cars running great

Mendel, somewhere in your links I remember seeing a schematic where the different parts in the EGR system were highlighted in yellow. I can't find it right now -- can you please point me to it if you remember?

Just received these pictures of the EGR pipe from the mechanic. They don't look as bad as some other pictures I have seen here.

Based on these pictures, should the EGR valve and cooler be inspected and cleaned?

What else in the vicinity of the engine would it make sense to replace now? The coolant and inverter pumps? I believe that the recommendation for the timing chain is 250K if there are no issues.

Exactly what are they doing? Just the hg? Machined head? Replacement engine? Rebuilt engine? Will you keep it another 100k miles?

If the engine is out I would change the radiator fan. It can be difficult to replace later. A good aftermarket brand:

Head gasket is being replaced. Cylinder head is at the machine shop and will be machined if needed.

It's a screengrab, from pdf linked in first link in my signature.

Note Intake Manifold is highlighted as well: aforementioned link will get you to the pdf of intake manifold too.

    Thanks Mendel!

Do you think my EGR was clogged/malfunctioning?

The pipe in the top picture isn't bad, but it only takes a few seconds with a pressure washer. The discharge end of the cooler in the bottom picture is getting pretty bad. The other end will most likely be worse. Most of the work involved in removing it has already been done, although those bottom nuts are harder to reach. Still, I absolutely would take it out and clean it. Also be sure to clean the intake manifold while it's out.

Death, taxes, and EGR clogging... Especially with things half disassembled, do what Jerry said.

Every gen 3 or v that comes into our shop for resale that has over 100,000 miles gets the EGR system cleaned. And then there are the customers who bring in their car specifically for EGR cleaning. I clean out 12-15 a week as the part time shop assistant.

Good to hear shops are getting into this. Well, "shop"...

What does your place charge, for just the EGR cleanout? It includes the intake manifold?

I'd have to look up the price if I can remember next Tuesday when I go back. And yes, it includes the intake manifold.

It was not clogged or malfunctioning. Either would give you a code. Makes sense to clean it when you can. Hopefully they do a full job on the head as it gets very carboned up as well. The end result can be pinging and hot spots.
