I just changed my rear brake pads at 200k. It still had a few thousand miles left on it.

    It's amazing how long brake pads and drums last on these Prius cars. I changed my front pads at 170k and rear drums at 200k. After changing these pads my parking brake felt very tight and new. Also it was very difficult to do these drums and after doing the one side first the second set was much easier.     it is amazing, well done!

    and i would add, find the right mechanic. many can easily botch these jobs.

    My 2012 v wagon has rear disks and rear parking brake shoes. At 250,000 I changed the rear brake pads just because I was there with a howling wheel bearing/hub. The pads were still legal and would have made 300k miles. The front pads and rotors are original as are the rear parking brakes and rotors. Regen saves gas; careful use of regen saves gas and brakes.

    Yes. I have a wheel spring rubber spacer. It helps when I have a heavy load in the rear.

    Brake pad material breaks down badly after time n heat cycles 3 yrs in mine they coming out with cracks in material and all of it Gen2 shoes gen3 pads pads. all park shoes last lifetimes. My parkie never been applied in Gen2 and 3 as of this date
