A girl (who had just totaled her previous car and was wearing temp plates) sideswiped me in her Kia Soul. $8,000+ in damages. I am worried about the EV battery but they’ll run diagnostics. Do I need to ask anything specific? Not sure if I’ll trade or keep it. The positive is it’s paid off. My teenage son wants me to get another one if I do trade lol. I would have said a Mustang growing up!
Ouch! Personally, I'd be loathe to wanting to keep it ... and with Toyota Prius Prime repairs seeming to be so high, it wouldn't surprise me if the insurance company totals it. The Mustang E also has my interest piqued.
I think it has to be 50% or something to total it. They are repairing it. That’s my dilemma. If it wasn’t already paid for I would 100% trade. The Mach E has intrigued me as well. But so has the Corolla GR that was just announced. Decisions decisions.
The damage looks worse than it actually is. I'm guessing no air bags went off. The key here is that center door post; if that's straight - two new doors and your good. They will know better once the carpet it pulled up and how much straightening along the floors is needed. One thing to watch is rear wheel alignment. Are they going to replace the strut, bearing, possibly the rim - if it's been bent too much to get a decent wheel balance.? 4-wheel realignment is a given. Wheel bearings don't like getting whacked from the side; engineered for downward pressures. Make sure they replace it, because you'll have problems down the road (no pun intended). You may end up driving this for a few years; until new car inventory and prices return to normal. Good Luck...
Sorry to see your PP smashed. $8,000 sounds underestimate. I would not be surprised if the shop increases the cost as they start working on it. My side swipe was a scratch compared to yours but still cost $3000 to repair. But at moment, being able to repair it would be better than being totaled. You would have a hard time finding a car that can replace your PP at whatever insurance is going to pay you. So, enjoy the Sentra until your PP comes back from the shop.
Got my Prime back and the cost didn’t increase. Good work by the shop and I’m happy to be back in it. Now I just have to remember where all of the buttons are again and remember to plug in at night! The stop/start on the Sentra was where the park is on the prime. I’ve already pushed it a few times to start it…
