Occasionally I have to go full-throttle in the HV mode when I have to merge a freeway on a short ramp. I seem to always get a bad smell when I do that, as if something is burning. I can't tell whether it is electrical due to some electrical system overheating or exhaust fumes or blowby. Has anyone else experienced this? I feel like I am damaging the car every time I go full-throttle. I am surprised that a new car would do this.
The air intake could be sucking more air at that time. Is the on ramp next to a particularly smelly part of town? Do you smell it if your air is set to recirculating? How's the inside of your engine bay looking? Could mice have moved in and made nests around the engine or exhaust and you're burning up the materials? Or some of the plastic covers or insulation come loose or shifted closer to those areas?
Nothing under hood. I thought about the smell of LA or nearby old vehicles coming from the outside, but it's hard to believe I would smell it only at full throttle.
Does the acceleration get you closer to the plume coming out from the car in front of you? Serious question.
