Negative terminal clamp broken

    Hello everyone

    I broke the piece that let's the negative terminal clamp onto the battery. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what to do, because Toyota wants me to pay for that entire piece instead of just that clamp. Right now, it just sits there and I have to push it back on ever so often after turning off the car.

    Car is a 2016 Prius Four.

    It's probably safe to assume they (dealer) don't sell the broken part individually.
    Salvage yard $2 item, or just put a small wormscrew hose clamp around the end section and snug it up to pull the two ends together.

    LOL at us..... maybe you could just buy something similar to this:

    I just did a search for T bolt and that popped up. Maybe you can specify Toyota, or if not available, buy one of those and maybe you can tweek it a bit to fit. The Dorman one may be available at an auto parts store where you can compare it to your broken pieces. Some of the reviews on the Dorman one say it was used successfully on Fords and Hondas also.

    My local NAPA and Advance Auto show they have them in stock.

    You definitely want to address this so there is a secure connection to the battery post. Any number of jerry-rigged/jury-rigged solutions await your creativity!

    Assuming by Toyota you mean a dealership: when you find a suitable link to just the parts (per the Amazon.uk link above?), maybe email the Service Manager, pass on the link, tell him about your experience.

    Yep, as commented above, all you need is the right size T-bolt and nut that would fit in the hole. I had something similar happen to my Honda. The OEM clamp was like $60, I went to a nearby Home Depot and got a square head bolt and nut for less than $1.

    Holy crap, I had no idea you could buy just that part! Yeah, I was not about to pay $170 just to replace that whole thing; I would have rather kept pushing it back down.

    McMaster Carr is the mother lode for arcane fasteners. The don't deliver up here though, at least not for small, non-business customers.
