I saw this and thought...wth..so cheap. Might as well give it a try. Working find so far. A bit stiff and no so "soft" when opening. For the price, I am not complaining.
If they aren't stiff in warm weather, they'll be useless in the dead of winter. Yours probably won't ever see weather that cold, but they make them the same way for the whole planet.
I bought mine on Aliexpress and only installed one as it's fine on its own. Kept the other one as a replacement for later.

"Sunk cost". Ignorable for the purpose of future economic choices. Cost of keeping the prop rod that came with the car: $0. Cost of replacing it with anything else: > $0. Now, if you had the option of buying the car without a prop rod because you wanted to spend the money on your own.... Of course, Marketing would probably make that option part of an extra-cost package with lighted door sills and whatnot.
Using the attachment points shown in the video resulted in the hood not opening very wide. Using different attachment points the hood now opens about as wide as the normal (1st) hood prop opening. With the kit I received the factory hood prop would have to be removed if you were to mount the strut kit on the passenger side. You now have to forcefully close the hood because of the struts resistance.
Just tried it and does not work. Cause the hatch lift is too long for the front. I lift the bonnet all the way up and it's still too long.
The hatch struts would also be way too strong for the light aluminum hood. The hatch is a much heavier steel assembly, and thus requires struts that have greater pressure/force. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
