Only had my PP for a week but so far loving it. 4 tires, a paddle board, snowshoes, a table, and various other gifts all fit without any issues.

Went to check on beehives set at a remote location. Unfortunately, I lost all of the colonies this winter. There were three 10 frame brood boxes (2 tiers of the deep frame boxes) and 2 nucs (5 frames of deep frame box) plus a few extra empty supers. I thought I had to come back with our SUV to haul them back, but I decided to try loading them into my PP.

"If I could take half of them today and come back again in my PP would be more cost-effective than coming back in an SUV to haul all at once"... I thought. Surprisingly, everything fit. Folding down the rear seats, and even using the front passenger seat, yeah it was jam-packed, but the hatch and doors all closed. Amazing!

WOW. I'd be so paranoid about a stray bee that I'd have an accident on the way home.

They were all dead. -30F winter chill took a toll this year. They survived 5+ years without replacing the queen but this is the end of that line. Still had plenty of honey store left, so the boxes were quite heavy.

Salamander_King, sorry for your loss. Cleaning out those hives is so disheartening.

I regularly haul all kinds of stuff in my Gen 2. These photos are awesome and give me hope. I have a hitch just for a rack to pick up a half cow every year on a 12 hour round trip drive. Also have a Thule reack and rocket box for camping. So I'm thinking a Prius Prime might work and I won't need to buy a Rav 4 Prime.

As an aside, is there a trick to removing the cargo cover? My manual says "push inwards on one side and lift out." Doesn't work. Still securely attached. It doesn't seem to have enough spring retraction to clear the holder piece.

Edit - found a thread from 2018 - looks like dealer installed improperly...

How could a dealer mess up the installation? I must wonder. It is just a spring-loaded end cap. It allows ~1 inch of retraction to either side. The square hole in the side panel of the trunk is clearly less than 1 inch deep.

Thanks, figured it out! I was pulling the metal part, not the black plastic cap. Came right out.

Toyota should have never discontinued their Prius V. Lots of seating and storage room with still decent mileage (I got 42 mpg avg.) I traded mine in today with 213,000 miles (for a 2018 Prime) because the head gasket started leaking at 200k (only shaking a little on a cold start-up), but got worse after an additional 13k. It started throwing cylinder misfire codes that activated the check engine light and it would shake violently whenever I accelerated at slower speeds. It also started losing a lot of coolant into the oil very quickly to where I was refilling the reservoir daily and got an occasion flash of the high temp warning light. I thought the HV batteries would go first. Never had any major mechanical issues till now.

I’m hoping the much better gas mileage of the Prime will make up for the loss of seating and storage. I’m comfortable driving it, but miss my Prius V already. Also, was surprised to learn there is no spare tire (or even any room for one)! I have AAA Premier though so I should be okay if I get a flat.

The previous owner had it three years, put only 28,000 miles on it, and was getting an average of 110.8 mpg. I thought that was pretty impressive! I will be happy if I get half that. Hoping my next car will be all electric, but prices need to come down and there needs to be more charging station infrastructure.

Congrats!!! Welcome to the Prime family.
FYI, 110mpg that the previous owner got includes the EV mileage.
With gas only, some members here ser record around 70mpg.

Half that? I'm averaging in the high 200s. Plug it in and run it on electricity as much as possible or else you're using it wrong. Well over 99% of my in-town miles are on electricity. The only gas I use is on out-of-state road trips.

There are threaded holes in the cargo area just behind the rear seatbacks. Attached a D-ring to one and have a donut spare strapped to it.

As for mileage, I don't know how to present it accurately. In daily use, I almost never use gas. Most tanks are well over 2,000 miles. Current tank is about 450 miles and is still essentially full. Best tank was over 3,500 miles. My overall average, including a 6,000 mile vacation and a 4,000 mile vacation is 134 mpg. Aside from those trips, it would be 300-400 mpg. Keep in mind that electricity isn't free. But in civilized parts of the world, it's way cheaper than gas. My average cost per mile (gas and electricity) in three years and 39,400 miles of ownership is just under three cents per mile.

They still sell it in other parts of the world. In Europe, it's called the Prius Plus and you can order it with seven passenger seating.

Reviewers say those little 20-in tires make for a rougher ride than full size. Thought of getting a similar size e-bike because at least that way they fit in our similarly sized smaller car. Otherwise - it'll have to go into the plugin minivan.

It's not true. The tires are fat tires with tall side walls, they're wide at 3" and use less pressure at 30psi. Add front suspension and the "comfort package" with a suspended seat post and it's way smoother than a standard bike.

Picked this up last week for our guest bedroom - 13" thick Twin Mattress. Reclined the front seats fully, but driver and passenger were able to safely make the 5-mile trip home and the hatch was completely shut.

That's amazing! And you have a camping Prius in the mean time.
