    Spare tire wheel rim?

Which year and model is the same size wheel rim for Prius Prime 2017 Advanced?

I saved one old tire to use for the wheel/rim for the spare tire.

Are any of year/generation Prius or Prius Prime or Corolla would fit?

I’m hoping to find something cheap either in the junkyard or Craigslist?

Where did you guys buy your wheel/rim and how much?

I already had 6 flat tires, one I used the flat tire slime kit, other 5 I had to get it towed. Each time it’s time consuming and cost so much money.

I’m hoping that if I have a spare tire that I just swap it out and take the tire for repair.

    thanks.

I buy Prius wheels from junkyards (rim plus tire) - often with a tire which looks ok. I buy the cheapest possible tires new from Walmart dot com. I find a cheap local guy to install the new tires on the rims once the original tires wear out. In each of my Priuses I carry a full size properly inflated wheel - they fit well behind one of the front seats, covered in one or two contractor trash bags. If you're concerned about a loose wheel taking you out in a crash you can tie the wheel down to various bolts at floor level.

Thank you for your reply. So you’re saying that any prius wheel/rim is the same size and interchangeable with Prius Prime 2017?

how much did you paid for your wheel+tire from the junkyard? So I have an idea.

    thanks.

thank you for your reply. I’m not looking at donut spare and plus $200 is too expensive. I’m looking for cheapest alternative which I’m hoping to find $25 wheel/rim and I already have old tire I can use.

    Thanks.

Hi bglow, No, I'm not saying any size will fit. You would need to research the specs on your own wheels and tires and those of any "target" junkyard vehicles. Shouldn't be too hard. I paid $100 for 4 complete wheels from a roughly 2010 vintage Prius. The walmart tires were about $53 each. The local guys charge me $10 to remove, fit and balance. They don't care if the tire you bring in is old or new. Cash only, no receipt. LA and San Diego area.

Gen4 wheels are the same spec as PP, Gen3 and Gen2 15" wheels have slightly larger ET 45, but it fits OK without causing the problem. At least for temporary spare use. Wheels for some Corolla or Matrix also are compatible. You can check the OEM wheel specs here. Wheel-Size.com :: Reference guide for car wheel and tire dimensions such as size, offset, PCD As long as the wheel has the spec of 6.5Jx15 ET40 with a 5x100 bolt pattern and bor size larger than 54.1 mm, it will fit.

You may find a used wheel within your budget of $25 but if you already have a tire to use, then buying an aftermarket steel wheel is going to cost you only $50-$80 depending on where you look. I got mine at Walmart and paid ~$50. Used an old tire that came off of Gen3. Add installation and balancing costs, the total was ~$75.

You can read about this topic on this thread.

Fwiw, for the Gen4 regular Prius and the Prius Prime, it seems like the stock rim is 15" x 6.5".

I chose to go with brand new compact wheel and tire. About $200. Let me know if you need details.

All Prime years are the same:

If you use a Toyota alloy wheel you need the 54.1 mm center bore and use Toyota OE lug nuts. If you use another wheel which has tapered lug nut seats you can use the OE lug nuts with their tapered end, and center bore diameter isn't critical as long as it is this size or greater. The alloy wheels are hub-centric and need the 54.1 mm center bore to center the wheels. Other wheels are lug-centric and use the lug nuts with the tapered seats to center the wheel. 6.5, etc., is the width of the rim in inches. J is the shape of the bead area of the rim. 15, etc., is the diameter of the wheel in inches. ET 40, etc., is the positive offset in mm (how much the hub face of the wheel center is offset toward the outside, necessary for front drive wheels). 2.5/2.4 is the tire inflation pressure in bars (1 bar = 14.5 psi). PCD is the number of lug holes and the lug circle in mm.

I found a guy on craiglist sell 1 gen2 or 1 gen3 at $10 each, need to replace the tire though
I assume either one should work with my 2021 Prime fine?
    Below is the ad
    Thanks

Two wheels fits Toyota Prius. Image shows both but each is $10.

    "near image: Size 195 65 R15 - from 2007 Prius - $10 (tire tread nearly gone)
    far image: Size 205 65 R15 - from 2010 Prius - $10 (tire tread nearly gone)"

Yes, either one would work. The wheel spec for Gen2 and Gen3 is the same. They are 6Jx15 ET45 wheels. Slightly narrow and the ET is different from the Gen4/Prime spec (6.5Jx15 ET40), but will fit.

I just picked up a 2005 prius rim with a brand new mecheline tire on craiglist for $60. I have not tried to mount on my Prime yet, so I assume that I can still use the same nuts with the Prime when mounting the Gen2 wheel?
