I have seen people mention that they"rebooted" their prius. I do not see it mentioned anywhere how to do this. Could someone please explain the procedsure to reboot the prius. Thanks, Bryan
Thanks for the quick response The reason I asked was, my prius may be sick I was slowing down on the higway to get offwhen I got the red triangle, the engine light, and other lights on the display, plus ! problem on display. I drove about 1/4 mile then pulled over. Then I shut off the car and tunred it back on, at this point the ice starts to run thank goodness since there is 1 bar on battery whew... I wait for 4 bars to show, then starting driving away car runs normal but lights still on, battery charges to 2 bars below max. I drove another 1/4 mile and shut oiff car. About 1 min later I start again and I only have now the yellow check engine light nothing else showing anything bad! I then drove about 1/2 mile car runs fine charging and ice runs when needed. Park car and turn off, then turn on still see yellow light so... I tried something, hit power button twice, then put foot on brake, moved to drive, display shows neutral and will not go into park. I press emergency brake and turn off car which in turn parking brake comes on and everthing shuts off. I then press the power buttoing with brake pedal pressed (normal start) and nothing bad showing, yellow light is gone! Is this a fluke could it be trouble or bad gas? Thanks for any help. Wonder what the moring start will bring... So for long winded Bryan
the MIL sets a code in the computer that stay's for 40 restarts so if you have any doubts take it in to the dealer and tell him what happened and have the car checked for any set codes. Definatly sounds wierd and worth checking.
I'm not sure about this, but is it possible that the car wouldn't go into drive because you were in Ig-ON mode? I don't know why it wouldn't go back into park after though. Also, if you do ask your dealer to pull the codes, check to see if they will charge you first. I've heard that some dealerships will charge something like $40 to pull codes--so it depends if you really want to know what the codes might be even if this never happens again.
betshsu is right, most charge, just tell them it gave you all the warning lights and your really upset that your new car crapped out on you and tell them to check it and make sure it's safe to drive and don't take a simple yes for an answer. Just tell them to take it in the back and make sure there is nothing wrong or your going to call Toyota. Most will make a workorder for a check. If not tell them your calling Toyota Customer Care.
I had a similar instance back in October while on vacation. Took the car to the nearest dealer and they pulled the codes, which translated to ICE failed to start. This is documented in a service bulletin for the 04 Prius with instructions to reprogram the ECU. It took a bit over an hour and the cost was zero!
I had the exact same thing happen a few weeks ago. The dealer will do an ECU update bulletin Code P3191 to resolve this problem. To answer the first question of this tread. If you want to "Reboot" or try and clear errors on the car make sure the ODO setting is not on Trip A or B make sure its on ODO and turn off the car. Press the brake, hold the ODO putton down and then hold the Power button. You should see dashes on the heads up display. They will disapear and your done.
That is to reset the maintenance required mileage counter, not to reset DTCs. Clearing all DTCs require a tool. Some DTCs will clear themselves after several error-free trips. Others will clear if you disconnect the 12V battery for several minutes. Some won't clear at all without the tool. Rebooting is simply powering off, and powering back on.
Thanks all for the help, Went to one dealer today, said may look at it b4 weekend (today is thursday) but would not guarrentte it. Very sad... NYC dealers have no care at all when there is a major problem.. So I called another dealer got an appoitment next week. For the people this has happen to. Were you able to start the car after and drive normally? Now the tuff question since we all feel which tsb will help me will the code stay in the computer, is this one of those permant ones? And if it isnt when I tell them the problem will they do the tsb, or only if they see the code? I appreciate the help here didnt feel alone in my time of need Thanks alot for the help, Bryan
