The c is too new for any battery failures, (and uses a smaller battery than other Prius) but this article hints that 5% failure in ten years may be possible. Honda Civic Hybrid Battery Reliability | Hybrid Batteries - Consumer Reports News The article is about Hondas, but the contrast between the Civic and the Prius is sharp. The c was introduced in 2012, so new CR has no data yet. There are 3 major batteries in a Prius, the Fob battery ($2) controls locking and starting the car. (some c's have a real key) The 12 volt battery starts the computers which run the car, it lasts from 4 to 8 years. ($200) The High Voltage battery which helps power the car down the road is the one where 5% have been replaced in 10 years. (Since more cars get totaled than have battery failure, consider a used battery when needed. $1000 used versus $2500 new)
Good information? Can you tell me where the 12 volt battery is located? I thought it was under the hood somewhere, but I didn't see it. Thanks!
Hope it doesn't make sparks when someone sits on the seat like an old beetle I once owned . I'd like to look at it for future reference. Seems like someone suggested to have a Toyota dealer to change it out when needed.
If you can change another car battery you can change a Prius. It is in the right rear corner of the cargo area.
just published introduction of Prius battery recondition machine, please review from youtube below link,
I’ve had both the 12v and hybrid changed in my 2013 C. 12 went out at 162k and the hybrid went out at 183k. I bought mine new and drive it every day.
