Hi. I damaged the engine to my car, it has frame damage and is leaking coolant and unfortunately isn't safe to drive anymore. :/ I was thinking of removing the catalytic converter, tires, and hybrid battery and putting them in storage, and junking the rest of the car. Is this a good idea? Anything else I should keep? The storage unit is air conditioned, if that makes any difference.

keep the catalytic converter to sell separately, it's a high theft item. Part out the car, why keep any of the stuff

Unfortunately I can't really part it out. I am traveling all over the place, currently subletting in the SF bay area, I am switching to a sublet across the country next week. I would need to get it towed ~500 miles back to my parents house in Reno. Doesn't seem worth it to me.

The idea is to put the high value stuff in storage (I have a storage unit here) and sell those on craigslist separately at my leisure the next time I'm back in June or July.

From what I gather the high value parts are: catalytic converter, hybrid battery, 12V battery, seats, tires. I keep those and junk the rest. Or sell it as-is on craigslist.

remove the catalytic before it gets stolen. Then put it on craigslist, gone in a day

Sell as is on craigs list... It's hard to be enthusiastic about this kind of dismantle labor when you'll make near same amount unloading it in one transaction.

    Exactly.
Sell it in one lot and get one with your life.

If you’ve “totalled” the car, is it owned by the insurance company?

I'm in the bay area. Hybrid battery is 6 years old. Insurance doesn't cover it because I bought it for only $4k, didn't seem worth it to me.

Once you remove the expensive bits, and before it gets squished or hauled away, I would be interested in grabbing a few of the leftovers.
