i get an update notification every day on my macbook pro. i have auto update checked, but it never updates. if i click 'update now', it says it can't. maybe i'm already hacked?
Not necessarily hacked, but there is likely to be a configuration / setting that is causing it to crash as it attempts to update. Unfortunately, There have been a lot of viruses and other attacks against macos windows and linux in recent months. Mac and Linux are fast to provide patches, but it sounds like you are unprotected. I'd get it fixed asap.
