I saw that burebista did that, but I couldn't view it there either. Anyway, good deal if the dealer takes care of it.

Don't think it's covered. Waiting for estimate now. Expect it will be several thousand dollars.
Searched on forum and found post with same issue which included a screenshot for cost of both parts.

I suppose they would insist on waiting for the codes to be set before covering it under ZJB.

Curious if anyone has had an estimate from the dealer for this. Pretty sure my brake booster just went bad. All brake lights on dash.

Last time brake lights showed up I tried to have this replaced but they said it was the ABS sensor in the wheel bearing.

This is so crazy- I have been telling people for weeks that my car with 210,000 miles runs and drives like new. Unfortunately if this problem costs thousands to fix I will have to get rid of the car. This sucks.

The lights just mean there are trouble codes. Nobody knows what went bad before reading the codes.

If you don't have a scan tool that can read the trouble codes, the brake codes can be read with a simple procedure involving a short wire and counting light blinks (for which there are a gazillion existing posts with details on PriusChat).

I encourage posting the trouble codes back here when you have them.

Thanks Chapman. Do you have a link to this method? I have tried searching Prius chat and YouTube with no success.

    I
    Hello,
I need to look into this recall to see if I qualify. Here is my story reposted from my Yelp writeup.

    YELP REVIEW INFO
My experience with Toyota Hollywood this February-March 2022 was mostly negative.

Here are the questions and comments that highlight the experience.

    1. Why did my service advisor A not check on the backorder status of my brake booster pump as I asked him to do numerous days in a row, only to find that it would be on backorder indefinitely?

    2. I ended up leaving my car at Toyota Hollywood for a few weeks while the part was tracked down. My service advisor misquoted me ONLY the labor cost of $1800 as the "out of the door" price. Surprise, surprise. The true out the door price was $4061.38.

    3. When I finally came to retrieve my Prius, I called A the day ahead so he could be ready for me. Before he gave me the price shock, he mentioned he had my car washed. When I got my car back, it was filthy. Why even mention that?

    DETAILS:
CAR: 2011 Toyota Prius, 123,500 miles. No previous problem.

    ISSUE:
I was driving from the San Jose, California area for a vacation to Los Angeles. Just as I was getting into town, my ABS, brake, and Traction Control lights came on. My car was also driving as if the parking brake was applied. I initially went to PepBoys in North Hollywood. They diagnosed my problem free and said they did not have the necessary parts to fix the issue. They recommended I go to an official Toyota dealership.

    FRUSTRATION:
I took my car into Toyota Hollywood before noon on President's Day, Monday February 21. After a handful of hours, the service department determined the issue was my BRAKE BOOSTER PUMP was leaking and needed replacement.

They told me the part was on backorder and they would need till Thursday Feb 24 or Fri Feb 25th to get the part and fix the car.

Stuck in LA, I had to find a hotel for these extra unexpected vacation days. I called and texted A throughout the week to verify the part was showing that it would be in by Thur Feb 24 or Fri 25th at the latest. A kept assuring me it would be in by Friday at the latest.

Thursday Feb 24? Is the part in? Nope.

Friday Feb 25? Is the part in? uhhhh. No. I ask to see the parts order form. A texted me a copy. The part order form clearly shows the part is on backorder and that the depot warehouse that the part is to come from is in Japan! Not the San Francisco Bay Area as A originally thought.

Why did A not check this parts order status earlier as I begged and demanded numerous times throughout the week!

I had to rent a car from Thrifty at LAX and drive home to the San Jose area.

The part came in Friday March 4th. The car was ready that day. I could not come back to LA that weekend. I told A to allow me to come the following week. He agreed.

    PRICE MISQUOTE:
When I came to get my car, A informs me they washed my car the day before. I thank him for that. He then gives me the invoice. What!

He originally quoted me $1800 "out of the door" for the service. Turns out I would pay over $4000 to get my car back. He did no quote me the right amount and left out the cost of the parts.

    ANOTHER QUESTION:
For those Toyota gearheads, does this quote sound fair?

2011 Toyota Prius Brake Booster Pump Repair
$994.50 for a Brake Booster repair kit
    $970.26 Brake Booster Pump
    $20.00 Brake fluid
    $1752.00 Labor ($219.00/hour, 8 hours)

    $3736.76 + tax = $4061.38

    DIRTY CAR, UNHAPPY CUSTOMER
Remember how A mentioned he washed my car the day before? It was filthy. He mentioned he thought he quoted me the $4000 amount. I told him "NO WAY", that I would have remembered that. He mentioned maybe he could go back and listen to our recorded conversations from our many phone calls. I said, "YES, PLEASE DO!". He said his service manager out but he would try and do that and call me on Monday (March 7th).

    Did I get a call?
    What do you think?

Good thing Toyota makes reliable cars, because the same can't be said of the communication and reliability of some of its service centers. I have a longer version of this saga (mostly unnecessarily long) on my Medium blog. System won't let me put the link in here.

Brake booster campaign is free up to August 2021 unlimited miles. Check NTHSA website, and you can call Toyota North America to get some price cut. Not sure why you did not get this brake booster done before that campaign is over. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2019/MC-10164922-9999.pdf
It is similar to campaign in Prius V but I lost the link for Prius 2011-2015. I believe it will be limited miles after 31 August 2021. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10181800-9999.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwimyYPpytX2AhWJSPEDHX8FCoIQFnoECCEQAQ&usg=AOvVaw0jb3Kt3K75MEocNFQ93-Jo

Hey they also overfilled your oil, for $129 USD...

Apart from the totals, I see nothing in the pics itemizing the brake work; on another page??

I'm wondering what folks in this thread think of my predicament...

My 2013 Prius has run into some braking issues and I'm wondering if this shop is looking to rip me off.

    Useful info
    • The car is at ~125,000 miles
    • The skid, brake, and ABS lights are lit up in the dash
    • The car has been inspected by a Toyota dealership and the recommendation to replace the brake booster was consistent. The reservoir and pump repairs where not mentioned but may have been part of the fix. Their repair estimate was around ~$4,000.
    • The car is now at an independent shop (set up via RepairPal) and the original quote for this fix was ~$1,200. The estimate they've provided is double that original quote at ~$2,450.
    • Sadly, this issue surfaced right after a relevant Toyota recall repair ended and I was unaware of this until it was examined. I did call Toyota and confirm that no mail had been sent to my address or messages send my way elsewhere to inform me of this issue. I will be submitting a request for reimbursement, but I'm not sure if this will be accepted.
    • Beyond that, the independent shop that isn't being too transparent on what is or isn't messed up and keeps referring to a vague TSB recommendation to repair a brake booster/master, pump, and reservoir along with a brake fluid change, but I can't seem to track down any TSBs that mention that a reservoir fix is needed in this situation. I've listed two TSBs that I've found so far.
      • MC-10181800-9999.pdf
      • MC-10198141-9999.pdf
    • The estimate:
