As long as the old one you put into the box has same parts and same basic appearance as new one you pull out of the box there won't be an issue. There's a serial number on each module we use to identify date of manufacture but Toyota core inspectors don't go that deep. And some worry that any writing on the modules from previous repair efforts would void core return, but that's never happened, or at least mentioned here. $1300ish is alot to withhold for petty reasons and I'm sure they'll avoid that hassle from a customers unless the core is missing stuff.

Thank you, Sir! When I cleaned out my HV Battery fan this past weekend, I think I saw some green tape which is a good indication that it's still the original one.

I just talked to someone from the Parts dealership and explained my situation and they said as long as the core Toyota battery is returned then I'll get my refund. The guy even mentioned, not sure if he was giving me a hint, that the cells will be inside the casing and they won't have time to check that everything's inside when I return it. They also mentioned that they're not concerned with all the modules, not in serial order. I'll check the battery when I get home. Thanks again!

An update. I was quoted over the phone $1400 for a battery a few months ago. I went in person today and it was 2775. I understand prices on things are going up but that’s ridiculous. I told him no thank you! He did have two in stock. LOL
Looks like I will be doing an aftermarket option. I’m going to check a couple other dealers first.

Is that $1400 + The $1300ish refundable core charge?

My serial doesn’t have any of those codes unless the codes are in another area of the battery? Here's a photo of the battery in my 2008 Prius.

no 1300 additional. So 4000 and I should get 1300 back. Does not include labor.

That is the 'newer' style case sticker/serial number.

Your battery was the 758th (model 47110) battery manufactured on 3/12/2008

    For this style sticker/serial number:

You'll notice the serial number has some digits that exactly match the last part of the battery part number (47110)
The next 2 digits are the year
The next digit is the month (1-9, A, B, C)
The next two digits are day of the month.

Helps if you’ve done it before. First timers may take longer. Agree that the added warranty is less valuable except I suspect that Toyota will claim self install screw up caused failure if it happens.

I've watched so many youtube videos that I'm confident I can easily disassemble the battery. Of course, that's all talk. haha

I did ask how much it was for them to install it and they quoted me $899. I laughed and told them I'll just pick it up. Besides, I thought of this early today that if the previous owners did something to my battery then they'll see it when they do the swap. If I do the swap, the batteries will be inside the casing when I return the core. The Parts guy I talked to even hinted that when I return the core they don't go inside and check for everything that's missing because it's time-consuming.

Does anyone know if I can just remove the top casing of the battery without having to remove the whole thing out of the car?

Watching some youtube videos, it seems like I'll have to remove the ECU cover and the 12mm bolts on the side of the case to remove the top cover, but I'm not 100% sure. If anyone could confirm that would be great! ;)

Yes you can remove just the top casing from the battery without removing the battery from the car.

I'm not quite sure that this will save you anything as you will need to unbolt the case of the battery and remove it to install the new case.

Perhaps I'm just not understanding your intentions, though.

I understand that when my new battery arrives I will have to physically remove the old one and swap out the pieces to the new battery. I am removing the top case just to make sure that my batteries have not been altered or replaced with other non-OEM batteries because I won't be able to get a refund for the core.

I couldn't wait until the weekend, so I opened up the battery case after work. It wasn't too bad. Thanks to all the youtube videos I watched, I was ready and was able to open the battery in 30 minutes. :) I'm glad I did it because it's one less thing to be worried about when I return the core.

Thanks again for everyone's help! :)
