I’ve noticed that my 2010 Prius has a camera in the same position where usual backup cameras are but I have no navigation on my Prius? I found it odd, but I couldn’t find anyone with the same situation as me. Any thoughts?
On the 2010 they are both part of the navigation package according to the brochure. The nav is DVD based. Would a missing DVD cause what you're seeing? I don't know; just theorizing. Also, Toyota sells backup camera kits that can be installed separately.
Not sure why backup camera feature would be dependent on navigation feature just because they bundled it into the same trim level? If I were you, I'd google "priuschat back up cam repair not working" and read everything and then come back to this thread with what you learned.
There is no display screen in a 2010 without navigation. I believe the screen without nav started in 2012.
Well... High definition display screens for backup camera for Gen2 are available both with and without navigation. And not a day goes by that I don't discover yet another really dumb-bad-stupid change to Gen3 when they first hit the market. in general, in-car navigation is outdated garbage in older cars. Totally worthless compared to real time traffic updates on a phone.
My info came from the 2010 brochure. It lists the camera, nav, and a whole bunch of other stuff in an "navigation package" that is available on all trims except the base. It only has one interior picture and it is a trim V with the Advanced Technology Package, which includes the nav package, so that one has the "big" screen. No pictures of other trims or models w/o the nav package.
That would have been good to know. In that case, it looks like the previous owner started to install a kit and never finished. Or some such crazy thing.
This sounds like the other day on another forum I frequent, someone was talking about how "rare" their recently purchased used Jeep Grand Cherokee was because it said it was a Limited trim on the liftgate but to the eye, was a completely base model (cloth, v6, no upgraded stereo, etc etc). Everyone on the forum was oohing & ahhhing at the uniqueness of it, when I simply said: "Thats not the original liftgate - someone at one point replaced it with the same color liftgate from another Jeep with the Limited badge on it". Sure shitting......
I have this type too and it's used for the reverse camera situated on the rear view mirror. So it could mean the mirror was changed or not functional.
