    Hi all,

I have a 2013 Prius V with about 52,000 miles. Today, out of the blue, it won't start. The dashboard lights up with all the warning lights. The engine won't start. I can physically move the shifter but nothing happens.

    Any ideas? Much appreciated!

First thing to do is to check the 12v voltage under the hood in the fuse box. This is the jump start point. Hopefully it is 12.0 vdc or better indicating a decent 12v battery. Much lower and it is partially or fully discharged. If the battery is six or more years old, there is a good chance it is worn out.

While the manual shows jumping with a car battery, the better and safer jump is with a lithium jump pack. Also note the red arrow, a badly discharged battery may need a few minutes of jump time to bring your battery to a decent voltage. With a jump pack, just connect and let it "charge" your battery for a few minutes if it does not immediately work.

If this is the least bit confusing, stop and get assistance. A switched polarity can do serious damage.

I've got this same issue. After replacing the 12V and the key fob battery, i have no luck starting the car. My local mechanic recommended me to the dealership for this issue. Before i tow it to the dealer, do you have any other things i can check? the hybrid battery is half charged.

Do you think it's possible that the battery i purchased from advance auto isn't fully charged? It's from 11/21 if the sticker is correct. Could that be the culprit?

What's a good place for a battery nowadays? I cant remember if Costco sells my battery. Second option is Sam's/Walmart.

Not my experience with Duracell / Batteried Plus... purchased 18 months ago. Yesterday had similar issue. Read voltage at battery and it was 6.78. Disconnected from car and Charged with 30 amp charger for 5 hours. Reconnected. Same issue... battery read 11 volts.. so turned the headlight on for 1 min.. then off. Read 7v. So took to Batteries Plus. They said it was 11 volts and just needed charging on their special charger and would not give me a warranty battery until it had been charged by them for at least 24 hr. Keep in mind not at my home and is 45 miles away at my daughter's house. Very frustrated.

unfortunately, most battery resellers are reluctant to honor warranty without a fight

Time to talk to corporate and read them the riot act. Sounds like an errant franchised dealer.
