Hey my car came with 15"x6" et45 & 195/65r15 Recently I bought some used rims 17" x7.5 ET35 it seems that Toyota uses 215/45 r17 Tyres on the 17" wheels, I have been thinking to go with a slightly smaller tyre diameter in order to gain some acceleration, so I might try to go for 215 40 17 that seems to lower the car 15mm (30mm smaller tyre diameter)Online Wheel and Tyre Fitment Calculator. How much do the aftermarket 17s weigh? The OEM 15s only weigh 15.7 lbs on my bathroom scale. You're probably not going to save much weight on tires as most of the weight is in the steel belts and bead, and the thick rubber tread. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Thanks , the smaller numbers than Toyota's setup that I would prefer is about the diameter it the tyre (smaller diameter require smaller torque... ) 15.7lbs (7.1kg approximately) is the weight of a 15" wheel assembled?(rim &tyre) ? In my case the rim only weights 10.7kg... (23.5lbs approximately) I expect it to be 9 more kg per tyre (almost 20 lbs,so a total of 20kg per wheel seems a lot... No, 15.7 lbs per bare rim, no tire mounted. 40 lbs for 17 inch rim plus tire seems about right. My Camry SE 17s weigh 25 lbs per bare riim. The tires add another 20-25 lbs. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Xliderider , Thanks for the info, then it seems about right , so it is good that they are not heavier than the oem rims, so we know that the oem numbers 215/45r17 but I think I should go for 215/40r17 or maybe 205/45r17 slightly stretched Tyre profiles! Just for reference . So finally went for 205/40r17slightly stretched on the 17"x7.5". The car behaves excellent! Although the speedometer is 13%off and the odometer 7% the consumption is very similar 4.3 l/100 on the stock 15 wheels now it tents to go to 4.6l/100 but steering and braking are like twice as good it used to be! And there is a slight increase in cabin vibrations about 10% to 15 %! Maybe next year I will go for 205/45/17 Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Yup the actual consumption remained at 4.2 to 4.3 plus the 7%error that the car do not know about gives 4.6l/100km (4.3*1.07=4.601) I might say that the acceleration gained a bit but I will check that for sure the next days, I can say for the moment that the extra 3kg per rim did not make it to accelerate slower that before it seems to be the same or even better but I must check when I find an open area to play a bit... The only reason I would return to Toyota's 215/45r17 would be in order to have the dash operating again instead of the android apps... At the moment I have turned the osd off since it confuse me even more ... The speedometer on the dash dials is at 113to 114km/h in order to get 100km to gps which is about right it is 6% off the speedometer than the odometer plus 7% error now, since I have changed the outer diameter with a smaller one...
