A good video if it was only a "how to" remove and modify the Prius v hv battery. In addition the video describes the process to upgrade to Lithium cells.
As described elsewhere on Priuschat, it is plug and play, has significantly increased mpg and improved acceleration. https://projectlithium.com/
The Prius v hv battery is the same as the gen3 hatchback. The installation is slightly easier and is documented separately.
Yes sold out has been an issue since they began sales. In other threads the company has announced when new supplies would be available. Certainly this option is a winner for a diy'er but assumes someone does it preemptively with planning rather than waiting for a failure.
I noticed that if you go into the detail page to buy it there it lists: Prius Gen2, Gen3, CT200h Lithium upgrade pack - 14 blocks The Lexus CT200h is a Prius v in almost all mechanical respects. Also to note: as of New Years Day, 2022, it is back in stock.
My Bad... I misunderstood the website. The "Sold Out" is grayed out, and you Hover over the "BUY IT NOW" button, and it indicates a valid button. However, when you click on the "BUY IT NOW" button, you get a "Transaction failed" error. I'd like to know how to know when it is time to "Preemptively" replace the battery on my 2013 Prius v. I can't afford to do so now, since the UPS Season has ended, and my not Ubering because on the Omicron Variant (I got a Booster on 12/28/21).
2022 sometime would be preemptive enough for me assuming I definitely wanted to be an early adopter of a lithium retrofit. Resale on the old modules might be higher as well. Generally your time is here if mpg reduces by 4 mpg or more, the charge level drops quickly at a stop light with the ac on, the battery is ten years old, etc. I would not trust the Dr Prius app just because it said 65% or better. I certainly would not wait for codes if I wanted to purchase lithium due to supply delays. But I would not want to purchase and let it sit on the shelf either.
Traction battery end of life based on what? Miles? Time in Service? Cycles? Our 49,000 mile 2012 v Five is showing no MPG or traction battery decline issues. [Knocks on wood.]
At 106K, I am seeing a drop in MPG over what I recalled having back when I had 35k on the car. I am not that concerned about MPG, A drop from 42MPG to 40 MPG (~5%) is not alarming to me. That is using Rideshare driving without Air Conditioning as a benchmark load on the car. I am concerned about unexpected drops of the Hybrid battery level. Case in point was in early October when a backfire caused the PCV and Evap hoses to pop off going 30 mph, and then the Power steering giving up after only coasting on level ground for a few hundred feet. I would have expected a few thousand feet. Still it is a big investment. If I spend 2 grand on a battery replacement, I am not going to put it up on a shelf. And I am going to pick a time without snow on the ground to do it. I'll start considering it in April.
I have almost 300,000 and the newpriusbatteries.com unit and I get between 43 and 45 mpg.... had it 2 years now. Trani ready to go at anytime......lots of noises........ have another engine and trani ready to go but I really hate this car..... people think I'm a cheapskate when they see it.... but it does get great mpg.....
@Tim Jones That made me laugh, especially bc I was so conflicted at the thought of even buying one. Is the car all beat up or is it just where you live and the type of car? Mine's beat to hell, but I spent a grand to make it my own and it helps me keep my Sequoia, so is what it is for me
