ok i have an 2008 prius, the vent cover to the right of the steering wheel covering the drive shifter is cracked and want to buy a replacement part on ebay and replace it. problem is i dont know how to remove it. on the vent to the left of the steering wheel it looks like you can pry it off but the one to the right of the steering wheel the new part doesn't look like you can just pull it off. does anyone know how to do this?
Remove the left vent. Remove the upper and lower steering cover trim pieces.. Remove the center left vent. (most likely in several pieces) As mentioned, there are many videos. Look for Gen 2 prius MFD replacement videos. There's one out there that shows how to replace an MFD in about 10 minutes. It does a good job showing how to remove the vents and trim pieces.
thank you I found a video. I was looking at videos for vent removal and did not find one that removed just the power button vent. I dont need to remove MFD screen though.
Because of the way pieces overlap, you have to start with the one on the left. Then you just work your way across.
To access Prius dash center stack (MFD, speedo, radio etc) requires removal of vents and power button panel as in this video to remove speedo cluster. TMR-JWAP has a better video below.
As mentioned previously, this video provides a very good procedure for vent and trim removal for these pieces. You don't need to perform any extra steps after the desired vent is removed.
Just find a Prius at a wrecking yard and practice removing it there first. If you remove it without damaging it then buy it and take it home and swap it.
The one to the right of the steering wheel is super fragile at the top, don't lift the bottom like he does in the video, try to pull vent straight out from top and bottom. All tabs are parallel with the floor and the vent insert is too, so pulling straight should avoid breakage at the top part.
