My 2011 Prius 2 has the following problems:
    • Right front passenger door crunched from a side hit
    • Broken left front passenger window
    • Leaking brake fluid
Am I correct in thinking that I can only sell it for parts, or are there other options?
The local scrap yard has offered me $450. Can I do better online or elsewhere?

What's your location? What's your insurance situation; has it been assessed? Pictures would help too.

If it has no other problems, I'd repair it and keep driving. Or maybe someone would buy it from you and repair it? I'm not sure what insurance has to do with this question?

This car has been rode hard and put away wet by an employee who I found out was using it for things like hauling 500-lb loads of scrap metal. He was also supposed to be maintaining the car, but that didn't happen.

So after the right door incident I chose not to involve the insurance company because I didn't see the point in paying the deductible to fix a door on a car with so many other problems.

I don't have access to the car to take pics at the moment, but my mechanic's verdict was "scrapyard".

I am in the process of buying a used 2015 Prius 3, which NOBODY but me will drive. Ever. Period. I'm just trying to find out how to raise the most cash to put toward my purchase.

The car is in Rhode Island.

A door and a window are easy. A brake fluid leak is pretty easy as well as long as it isn't the master cylinder. Even if you are tired of the car I would fix it and sell for many thousands more than the repair cost.

    depends on the mileage

    how it has been maintained

    does it burn oil

how often does the brake fluid pump run

has the egr circuit been cleaned

used cars are worth a fortune today

Thanks for all of your replies.

Here's the story: I'm driving a 2015 Prius. My question is what to do with the 2011 one pictured here, which obviously won't pass inspection next month.

    Left.jpg Right.jpg Front.jpg Back.jpg

Please have a look at the pictures then let me know:
    1. How much I should try to sell it for (the scrapyard offered me $450)
    2. Where I should try to sell it (Craigslist comes to mind)

    As I posted earlier:
    • The car has 126K miles on it
    • It leaks brake fluid and has been driven over a month without any
    • It has been used to haul up to 500 lbs of scrap metal
    • The interior looks about like t he exterior
    • The car is in Rhode Island

The hybrid battery if it's in decent shape might be of use to someone and you could almost assuredly get money for the catalytic converter, after which perhaps scrapyard is fine

This car has been driving 10 years on heavy salted roads and that could lower value. Yes the battery is worth dollars (if good) but the engine is worthless if it burns oil but how could you know. You could have easy parts removed and sell it for the weight of metal OR fix the brakes if cheap fix and give it to son/daughter to learn how to drive. Why: 1. kids usually tear up the first car 2. a Prius it is a safe car.
