I decided to give this adapter a try. View attachment 222052 https://www.carlinkit.store/collections/mini-carplay-box One of the easiest installs I have experienced. I had to allow connecting via Bluetooth on my iPhone, then I accepted a connection on the PP. Two selections and it was up and running. Rather than using the supplied cable, I installed it with a USB A to USB C adapter: View attachment 222051 USB 3.0 SuperSpeed Type A Male to Type C Male Adapter Converter Connector | eBay This way it is tucked away and not occupying the cup holder. First impressions and observations: Ran around the city today and using Siri and navigating went well as did the sending and receiving of iMessages that are dictated and announced. Using Siri for phone calls went well with the exception of a few calls dropping off. Hopefully it was not the adapter. Time will tell. iPhone ?
Loaded an update that hopefully addresses the phone call drop off issue. The S/W version was 11 months old as received. iPhone ?
I've been using that exact mini unit since August. First on my 2021 C-HR then on my 2022 Prime. Haven't had any issues. Once in a blue moon, the Prime's HU gives an "Apple CarPlay error". I unplug the mini and plug it back in (or I used to). I now have it plugged in with one of these cables: https://store.obsbot.com/products/usb-a-to-usb-c-data-power-cable-with-on-off-switch If I get the error, I toggle the switch off then back on. I have the cable running into the center armrest and have the mini sitting on the felt-lined tray.
Seems like the S/W update took care of the phone call drop issue. Was on a 13 minute call today and had no issues. iPhone ?
Still worth the purchase a week after your last update? Considering purchasing this after having my phone plugged in and charging for a long road trip, just felt it was unnecessary when I only needed carplay features not charging.
Yes it was worth the purchase. I find that I am using it a lot for dictating iMessages and having Siri navigate with voice commands. And it takes no effort to connect now like it was with the cable. iPhone ?
Good to hear. did you purchase from the link in your original post? The payment processor name made me a little leery. "PingPongPay"
Yes , the link I posted for the Carlinkit store. But if you are in the USA, it may be cheaper on Amazon for you. iPhone ?
It cost me $71 USD to bring to Canada per my original post. I found it to be worth the money. iPhone ?
FYI - version 4.0 is out and is faster/less laggy and supports both CarPlay and Android Auto (v3.0 only supported CarPlay). I ordered from Light in the Box via this deal: https://slickdeals.net/f/15824500-carlinkit-4-0-wired-to-wireless-carplay-adapter-blue-60-70-via-mobile-app and there was an extra coupon so I got it for about $50 US. Totally worth it, seems to work well.
Anyone have reviews of the 3.0 vs 4.0 vs 5.0? My iPhones lightning port is a tad finicky, so it keeps disconnecting. They within 30 bucks of each other at the moment. 3.0 $75 bucks 4.0 $101 buck 5.0 $106 bucks
