is there any speed at which engine starts to kick in vs HV battery like 15m or 20mph no codes on HV but its greenbean battery its random when gas engine uses gas to power hv battery, drive sometimes even 10mph could be the HV battery is not strong ?
anything is possible with any rebuilt battery, you'd have to put a scanner on it. but if you're not getting any trouble lights, or even the fluctuating battery gauge, it probably isn't too bad. engine firing is based on acceleration and other externals like ambient temp and hvac use. that being said, there is an ev limit of 43mph iirc.
thx bisco ,the engine is replaced jdm ,current bmp 25mpg ,looking to see how the mpg on the new engine adjust to ev and fuel use vs ev use
I wonder this too. Mine is oem battery replaced under warranty 110k miles ago, and i still get 47-49mpg. But the ICE start is a bit rough sometimes. I guess it's just general wear of the gears. I mean, it does have 225k miles now.
If you are trying to use the EV button for electric propulsion, with the ICE warmed up, it will cancel EV mode and fire up the ICE at 25 mph. Though when gliding and under some other circumstances, the ICE may not be forced to spin until about 46 mph in a Gen3 Liftback (slightly different on other bodies and vintages). If the ICE is not warmed up, but engine coolant is above 68 F (on U.S. models), then EV cancels at 10 mph. When that coolant is below 68 F, EV mode is not available, and the ICE will turn on regardless. But as Bisco mentioned, there are other factors that can kick on the ICE earlier.
Although I have the aftermarket lithium pack from Dr. Prius. I can get over 50mph before the ICE kicks on. Also the ICE will remain on during warm up until 104F. I have been on the freeway at over 70mph with just the HV. ICE is off at that time until I push the gas harder.
By "ICE is off", do you mean just no fuel burn, or not even spinning? On unmodified Gen3 Liftbacks, the ICE is spun at 46+ mph to prevent MG1 overspeed, even if no fuel is being burned (i.e. ICE is driven by MG1, not by gasoline).
I believe it spins still at just under 1000 rpms. What I was talking about is power with arrows from the ICE. So when I would travel at those speeds, the power arrows are coming only from the HV battery not the ICE.
nimh battery : ev mode- accelerates fine until 24 mph, then switches on the gas engine eco/regular/power mode- accelerates much softer but can go over 40 mph n electric only, if you're careful about how much you press the state of charge, engine temperature, and acceleration requested all play a role
